Is it just me?

Or does this chart indicate that Democrats are equally as bad as Republicans and the only true freedom loving Americans include Libertarians, Objectivists and Swing-Voters? (Ayn Rand invented Objectivism, BTW)

I found this a few minutes ago approvingly posted to DU as if it was making some kind of really good point.

Both sides do it, eh?

Dumbing down the political spectrum to a bipolar "liberty" and "tyranny" is the favoirte schtick of Libertarians. Since anti-statism is all that Libertarians really have to offer that appeals to some people on the left, they only talk about that and act as if there's nothing else.

Any political diagram that is worth something will include: Economics, Social Policy, Statism, etc. and many more categories. Only then can one point out the real differences between libertarian woo and Liberalism.

You called it as it is. Dumbing down political charts to inlcude only one political dimension is the oldest trick that the Libertarians have. These kind of diagrams were used to try to convince my mother that she might as well stop being a hippie and could just as well start being a Libertarian as early as back in the 60's (I still have some of the JBS literature that they handed out to her). All goes back to Hayek's Road to Serfdom, where all political dimensions are dissolved to the category of "liberty" and "tyranny". A cheap trick that only convinces those who don't know better (which sadly are quite a few).

I first saw it in a HS freshman social studies class.

The addition of the freedom vs serfdom thing is a more recent addition.

created by a political mindset that is invested in capitalism as the penultimate economic model for a society and that is all it reflects. An ordering of people based on consenting to be robbed in the guise of preserving their freedoms is the great lie. Remove religion from it . We need to disabuse ourselves of the notion that the consent of a people to share resources with equity is tyrannical and the flipside notion that the every man is the king of his own island held by libertarians is freedom. The human condition is more nuanced than this chart presents and the authors of this chart are clearly inside the box.

The chart is stupid, but you aren't reading it properly.

And Objectivists are explicitly Randian, Ayn Rand invented Objectivism, do you think they too are opposed to tyranny and in full support of liberty?
