Glenn Beck wants to create his own Ayn Rand-inspired utopia

Glenn Beck wants to build an Ayn Rand-inspired utopia
By Katie Mcdonough

<...>

According to Beck’s website:

<...>

Glenn believes that he can bring the heart and the spirit of Walt’s early Disneyland ideas into reality. Independence, USA wouldn’t be about rides and merchandise, but would be about community and freedom. The Marketplace would be a place where craftmen and artisan could open and run real small businesses and stores. The owners and tradesmen could hold apprenticeships and teach young people the skills and entrepreneurial spirit that has been lost in today’s entitlement state.

There would also be a Media Center, where Glenn’s production company would film television, movies, documentaries, and more. Glenn hoped to include scripted television that would challenge viewers without resorting to a loss of human decency. He also said it would be a place where aspiring journalists would learn how to be great reporters.

Across the lake, there would be a church modeled after The Alamo which would act as a multi-denominational mission center. The town will also have a working ranch where visitors can learn how to farm and work the land.

Well, gold might START out being the exchange medium, but within a week or two it will become meth.

"beckistan" to get a taste of "real" America actually get what they want. The artisans and small business owners can go into debt up to their eyeballs to start their business only to have Wal-Mart plop down a mile away and drive them out of business with chinese made crap. Other businesses can pollute the lake with all manner of poisonous discharge because the "freedom" loving Beckistan government refuses to stifle business on any level.

cheers!

Beck wants to use Ayn Rand’s fictional utopian “Galt’s Gulch.” The key word here is fictional. I give it a week before it becomes Lord of the Flies.

is pretty much laying on the embellishment, and what will come out of this will be a theme park and a glorified HOA. I don't think it'll go anywhere though, because:

1.) The fun of a theme park is make-believe. You know what you're experiencing is not real. Of course Glenn Beck is selling suspension of disbelief, but he's asking people to accept his bullshit at face value.

2.) The whole Glenn Beck/Tea Party business is built around White Male Anger. It may sell a lot of bumper stickers and t-shirts but it hardly makes for a fun family vacation. The Clark Griswold types will stay away.

3.) "People of different incomes could come together and be neighbors" - I don't see that happening. Or if it does, I don't see it going well. Beck's fans don't take a very neighborly view of poor people.

The family they were profiling ran a wild west amusement park down in North Carolina ('cause we all know how Wild West North Carolina was) and were outfitting it to act as their prepper hole when the EMP hit. They had even put in a fort. Perhaps Beckipoo could buy them out, change the name Deadwood to Independence and use the fort as the church. He might want to remove the bamboo punji sticks and pits the family had dug however. Nothing curtails entrepreneurial spirit more than falling into a punji pit while golfing on the back 9.
