If he were the politically driven, rightwing zealous crusader (as he is made out to be by some at DU), he would have let it go, and the legitimacy of his assumption of office would have been challenged.

I think they were both nervous & overcome by the emotional & historical impact of what was happening. The crowd where I was standing didn't seem to care; we just wanted Obama to get to the part where he said "I will." It wasn't until I got back to my hotel that I started getting phone calls about it & how upset the crowd was. Really? We were too freaking COLD!!! The only thing that upset me was the way the port-o-potties were set up deliberately to cage people in & thus cause bottle-necks as people tried to get off of the Mall.
