I would vote for her in a New York minute, but she said she isn't running. Maybe after she has rested a bit she may change her mind, but I haven't seen her say she's even thinking about it. Maybe we should respect her decision. Although I would love to see a woman in the Oval Office in my lifetime.

(135,425 posts)She gave the "no plans" non-denial denial.
She has not ruled out running. She just has not declared.

(10,960 posts)I have no idea whether she currently plans to run, but her comments on the subject have no predictive value.
If she was running she would say she wasn't running.
If she was undecided she would say she wasn't running.
If she was not running she would say she wasnt running.
That's nothing against her. That goes for anyyone in her position.

(2,514 posts)please don't take this as ageist, Bill & Hilary, as well as W. share the distinction of being the first born of the Boomers.... born 1946, I share that chronology with them... remember a couple of weeks ago, the fall, the bump on the head... I was worried for the Lady...
I would love to vote for her, and at this point can not picture anybody else as our candidate.. of course in 08 I remember early on many of us assuming she would be our candidate.. in any case I would be happy to work for Hillary, and indeed plan to do so...
I simply realize that at this time in our lives things can happen, situations beyond our control can have circumstances...

(65,340 posts)I liked that she left just a touch of gray at her temples and at the edge of her widow's peak. I do that too. I think it's a good look for us "women of a certain age."
But she did look fresher and prettier than she has for awhile. I think the forced bed rest was good for her. She has put in so much time and traveled so many miles as SOS, and her exhaustion was evident. It had added at least 10 years to her face. But getting a little time off has taken those extra years off her face, just as finishing up his political career did for Bill.

(10,960 posts)My candidates in 2008 were Biden and Hillary. I have regard for both of them.
But it is a job that, ideally, you have for eight years. I think she would turn 76 in 2024 and Biden 81.
Just not a good idea, IMO.

(46,436 posts)I'm an old hippydudette, also born in 1946, and I can't even imagine running for president in four years, even though I'm in excellent health and plan to live to 93. It's just time to pass the torch.

(13,877 posts)She has indeed played her cards well and that success can be envigorating...and add to longevity. In many ways she would be a Co-President with Bill, I believe, and that will take off some pressure. Plus I hear she likes Julian Castro maybe for VP.

(1,044 posts)for her second Senate term, she said she wouldn't run for President.
This isn't unique in politics - it's almost pro forma. Such declarations are meaningless.

(13,877 posts)The SOS experience has been important and her stature has increased immensely. She looks like a candidate to me, but first she needs to rest. And I heard she was grooming Julian Castro maybe as VP...YAY !

(25,183 posts)I don't believe it, either. She's definitely going to run, unless there is some health problem preventing it. I remember when she said that all she ever wanted to be was NY's Senator.
To Hillary Clinton, everything in life is a potential steppingstone.

(22,000 posts)But I believe they are wrong. I've said consistently I don't think either her or Biden will run. Yes, that will leave a huge hole open, but we have plenty of good people that could run. Whoever the nominee is will have the support of a sitting president and two former presidents. If Obama's 2nd term goes well, I believe the Republicans are in for a long cold winter.

(65,340 posts)this brilliant woman, who has been vilified more viciously by the RW and for less reason than anyone I can think of other than the Obamas, is retiring with 69% approval rating. If she runs, she gets dragged back down into mere politics. I think the fact that she is so widely admired and honored must drive her RW enemies up the wall, and that delights me. I hate to think of her becoming a target for thir viciousness again.
Besides, she is old enough that she might want to avoid the grueling campaign trail. She has spent pretty much her whole life in public service. I think she might like the idea of choosing her projects, working under less stressful conditions, and enjoying her family life now.
Like Bill, and like the Carters (whom I also deeply admire), she will undoubtedly continue her life of public service--but on her OWN terms. She has blazed trails for other women. Her place in history is secure. I think she probably likes the idea of finishing her political career on such a high note.
Also, with her super reputation, she will be, as Bill was this last election, an incredible asset to whoever the Democratic candidate is. The Clintons and Jimmy Carter are our party's elder statesmen now. Unlike the Republican Party, we don't have to hide our former leaders, because we can be proud of them.
