Wisconsin: Preble staff, students denounce Senator's comments

Sen. Mike Ellis, R-Neenah was caught referring to Green Bay Preble High School as a "sewer". Folks aren't happy.

“We have been misrepresented,” student Jessica Franco said, added she was furious “at how poverty is seen as a crime. People don’t choose to be in poverty.”

Green Bay district Superintendent Michelle Langenfeld invited Ellis to visit Green Bay schools.

“I called him and told him we were appalled at his comment,” said Langenfeld, who attended the Preble event. “We really believe this conversation (about vouchers) needs to be had in public with the public, not in restaurants and bars.”

...

“It’s really very unfortunate and deplorable what was said,” Gard said. “It wasn’t factual. And it’s too bad if it further divides people. Preble is a great school with a great tradition.
