The report says Paul "double-billed" his travel expenses a number of times over the last decade, meaning he may have been reimbursed for the same flights both under his official allowance as congressman, and by either non-profit groups under his control or his campaign committee.
The revelation would be ironic in part because Paul made fiscal responsibility a central tenet of his 2012 presidential campaign. The congressman celebrated a major victory in July when his bill to audit the Federal Reserve for greater transparency passed the House.
Paul's possible double-billing has been in the public eye since Roll Call first reported it in February, but CREW says there is no evidence Paul has repaid the money since.
A request for comment from Paul's office was not immediately returned.

(5,141 posts)When I dazzle him this thing called facts his response is "that's a straw man, they're full of shit. Wake up before its too late!". He was trying to explain the New World Order to me and I realize he's talking about an alleged plot that's been going on for the better part of a century. I said "well if it's true, they're either the most incompetent or laziest group of people...you'd think that people as cunning and devious as you say they are would have succeeded in their bid to control the world by now."

(117 posts)by Lawrence O'donnell to you where he sorta debunks the whole Ron Paul is stealing tax payer money for flights.
The fucker has a lot of things wrong with him but stealing tax payer money for flight isn't one of em. I bet if someone looks closely, they will find connection between him and the Koch brothers.

(1,569 posts)Not that it matters. If I remember correctly CREW didn't say he was one of the most corrupt members of congress, they just gave him a dishonorable mention based on some allegations made buy a republican journalist that was supporting Newt.

(3,811 posts)CREW alleges that evidence exists that shows Paul improperly accepted public reimbursement for expenses on 52 occasions. Some of the evidence -- which is meticulously documented in the CREW report -- includes the official U.S. House of Representatives 'Statements of Disbursement", photocopies of Ron Paul's American Express statements, and photocopies of cancelled checks from the Liberty Committee.
Paul's spokesman practically admits some of the allegations may be true, while at the same time trying to dismiss the activity as inconsequential and the investigation of it as petty and partisan. Bullshit.
CREW has a long history of accurately exposing genuine misdeeds by elected public officials. This is more than just "...some allegations."

(4,835 posts)About the time his huge victory with the 'FED audit' legislation passed the house.
He doesn't play well with others and that's why so very few of his legislative efforts are seen all the way through (or acted on at all). I'm sure his 'audit the FED' legislation only passed the house because so many congresspersons knew that the senate wouldn't even look at it.
I believe he has some kind of gold business too; which is probably why he rails on about returning to the gold standard. He expects to personally benefit from that somehow.
I saw a video where he discussed eliminating the FED and he said he didn't know what it would be replaced with; we just need to eliminate it. The man is a loose cannon. Hopefully he won't be back. It's a shame he doesn't take his son out of politics with him.

(30,058 posts)Instead of purchasing his tickets early his excuse was he might to have to change his travel plans but a cheap ticket with changes was cheaper than the tickets he was purchasing. He is rotten to the core, attaching earmarks to bills he knew was going to pass and voted against the bills while claiming he did nit vote for any spending and run to his district with the proceeds. The Paul ots will defend hi. to the end but it does not change his dirty games.

(37,160 posts)I'm not where I can track down the source, but I recall a report saying he had the most relatives as (campaign?) staffers, so his perpetual campaign organization also served as a family cash cow.
But then, if you believed what he claimed about racism in his newsletters (I.e., that he didn't have a hand in the newsletters) then he effectively admitted to defrauding his subscribers. It was one or the other.

(11,093 posts)Initially he looks fine, revolutionary even. And yet some of his policies and proposals are decidely retrograde. It's important to keep in mind that Paul is a Libertarian more than an Republican. As for double-dipping, I can't speak to that, his persona is that everything is transparent and above-board, but if he really was doing it (to his knowledge, as opposed to his campaign manager) then that to me would be the kiss of death.
