At least Obama has agreed to stage thousands of American infantry and mechanized equipment right next door to Iraq in Kuwait, but if Iran mounted an offensive to take Iraq territory, we would lose many pushing them back. Maybe should have worked out a deal to keep them there with immunity earlier this year instead of doing nothing until the last minute.

Having troops in country has worked in South Korea for 55 years now.

You might recall that it was Iraq who invaded Iran, not the other way around.

You have NATO, the US and Israel all just itching to pound Iran back to the stone age and Iran doesn't have the bomb yet.

Iraq's fears of Shia Islam insurgency among Iraq's Shia majority (influenced by the Iranians) had nothing to do with Iraq attacking Iran I guess. But whatever, Obama sounded all the messages to our troops that George Bush said in 2002 about a free Iraq. Must have hurt Obama deeply to have to say a free and democratic Iraq is a good influence for the region.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%E2%80%93Iraq_War

The war began when Iraq invaded Iran, launching a simultaneous invasion by air and land into Iranian territory on 22 September 1980 following a long history of border disputes, and fears of Shia Islam insurgency among Iraq's long-suppressed Shia majority influenced by the Iranian Revolution.

Funny how wikipedia forgot to mention all those Iranian Revolutionary Guards crossing the border into Iraq arming and inciting the Shia.

Iran hasn't invaded anyone in over a century.

How many nations has the US invaded in the last century?

There is absolutely no need for Iran to "invade" a country already firmly aligned with it. Iraq and Iran are natural allies. It was only the US support for Baathist aggression against Iran that obscured that fact.
