Breaking: Carnival Triumph has arrived at the pier in Mobile, AL.

Not yet tied up, but at the pier.

Only one functioning elevator on the ship to move 3,000 people.

It is expected to take as long as overnight to disembark all passengers.

A main reason that people go on cruises is so they can annoy the person in the next cubicle with all their stories about all the cruises they have been on.

This cruise will have endless value as a source of annoying stories that the passengers can tell their relatives, co-workers and friends (ex friends?).

"You think that's bad .... let me tell you about what happened on day 7 of the Carnival Triumph cruise that I was on...."

Sheesh!

You don't have to do that on the fancy-schmancy cruises you have these days.

I go every year to a little island off the coast of Belize. No Marriotts, no McDonalds, local people, local food, locally owned everything. Crystal white beaches, water that's is more shades of blue and green than you can ever imagine. The worlds largest barrier reef less than a quarter mile offshore. I've had more than one friend say they were going on a cruise that was stopping in Belize and I tell them not to even bother going to the island. They can either take an $$$ excursion which is an hour and a half water taxi ride each way to a resort where you have to eat or take a cab to the airport, buy a $125 RT ticket and still have maybe 4 hours to experience an island it's taken me 6 years to start to appreciate and love. Most just wander around Belize City and wonder why anybody would ever go to Belize.

I have the utmost sympathy for those on the Triumph. Another reason I'll never take a cruise as if I needed one.

The majority of the people are very complimentary of the crew and understanding of the circumstances. There may be hope for us yet! lol!

Most of the passengers coming off are laughing, complimentary toward the crew, and downplaying the conditions.

I'm glad they're all back safe.

..because my understanding is that "stinky" is the word to describe that boat right now.

And now these folks ride a bus to Galveston?

I think not. First hotel with shower, then most likely a Walgreens, and then another shower just for good measure.
