If you don't want to hear about the "Breaking News" just change the channel.
You see, most of what we talk about here on DU as "Breaking News" is being covered by the 24 hour news channels. Their product is "news" and when there is no big news, they cover meaningless shit. You ever notice how the show hosts interview each other all day? That's because they actually have *nothing* in the way of actual news.
So when a broken down cruise ship with reports of "urine soaked carpets" makes it to shore and the passengers can get cell signals and talk to the news organizations, the news organizations will be all over it.
Same thing with car chases and Dorner and all the other sensational shit we discuss. The source is the ravenous cablenooz industry. When there is no actual product (news) they manufacture some.
