In the US are the salaries of all public sector employees, including teachers, made public?

Just curious as I stumbled across a database on-line that makes it very easy to search for the salaries and names of all public sector employees in the province I'm living in, BC.

http://www.vancouversun.com/business/public-sector-salaries/basic.html

I was having some fun searching through the database looking at average and high salaries of professors and teachers at various schools. Then it occurred to me that I'd like to compare these to figures in the US. Any similar such sites for US states?

All county and city employees names and salaries are published. All one really needs to do is request the info in many cases. State and Federal wages/paygrades are common knowledge and publicly available.
