My husband and I are thinking about taking one of the summertime cruises there.

My dad was stationed in Alaska when he was in the service during the Korean War. He had some really great pictures and spoke of it fondly.

Near Haines, AK. No boat. The Chilkoot River, just below the weir where they do fish counts. Far enough below that fishing is legal. Quite a crowd fishes there during the season.

Just about where this guy is standing:

I loved it. I wish I could go back. I would even move there if there was a good job for me, despite the fact that I have become a terrible cold wimp.

Across the board, there is a consistent, heightened level of pride in their state. Moreso that I notice from any other state representative. They are proud of the life, the beauty and the sense of freedoms (not necessarily political, more like the the uncluttered freedoms that comes with openness and sparce populations). There was a frontiers'ish man type of sense to those I spoke with. By the millions of population, I could see harm done to the natural resources, but with the fewer population, living off the land and what the land, streams, ocean etc has to offer, seems to give them a contentment in their day to day lives.

In the early afternoons they played re-runs. He would hear that music and come running, yelling the moose, the moose is on! He ony liked the intro to the show but now everytime I hear that music it brings be back about 15 years to when he was a little tyke.

Hubby & I always liked that show too. Wish it had lasted more seasons!

Too bad the politics are really conservative.

From what I've heard, it's because a lot of people moved up from Texas and Oklahoma to work in the oil fields.

Also a bummer that Obama's in favor of offshore drilling there.

the photography group. I always enjoy seeing what she puts up for us to look at.

I have some friends who did a lot of traveling and they could not have been more impressed than they were with Alaska. It was a pleasure to have them share their stories and beautiful photos with us.

After looking over the Alaska tourism site I now see just how many different things there are to see and experience! I’ve always thought that Alaska was probably one of our most beautiful states.

Here’s a link to the official Alaska Tourism Site: http://www.travelalaska.com/

I think I’d take one of the Alaska Railroad Tours if I went up there: http://www.alaskarailroad.com/Default.aspx?alias=www.alaskarailroad.com/travel

I think I would skip seeing Wasilla.

about 4hours twice, while flying from lower 48 to a military exercise in Japan. We had a layover in Anchorage. Stuck in the airport, not allowed to leave, sun never came up while we were on the ground in January. Would love to visit and fish there someday.
