Free Republic - Almost year round 'freepathons' that clearly benefit one person - the guy who runs the website. I'm not sure what he spends all that money on since that's the same exact software they've been using since the 90s.
Democratic Underground - Fundraisers are now to raise funds that help many (This time for Planned Parenthood Breast Cancer fund). The guys that run the website are constantly finding new and improved ways to make DU an amazing and fresh.
Oh and they have a bunch of dumbasses who still think if they vote for superrich white males that somehow they too will be superrich.

(31,518 posts)I will have to admit, however, that it was FR that turned me onto DU. Several years ago, I followed a link on a news story and wound up at their site. I read enough to know that I was in the wrong place, but I had seen several references to DU. I figured that if they hated this place so badly, it might be worth checking out and I've been here every since.

(24,461 posts)Anyone who believes it costs six digits to host that Mosaic-era relic must be downing the same rot-gut that RimJob's poisoning himself with.

(4,723 posts)My guess is that some people over there also like a place to air their homophobic, racist, dominionist hate. I am sure though, as your observation that I quoted, that most of them labor under the stupid notion that they are going to be superrich someday. As for their "freepathons," I don't know how any of them would have a leg to stand on to gripe about it if they do gripe. If the person who runs the site is personally benefiting from it, wingnuts like those at FR seem to condone stealing, mismanagement and other nasty things as long as it is called "capitalism." Honestly, I don't know whether to laugh at or feel sorry for the sheep over there.

(82,383 posts)Since they are smart, hard workers, the Freepers must have plenty of dough to give RimJob and it's surprising they don't demand a better site.

(7,904 posts)Take what the OP has written to heart. You really should ask yourselves what the hell is going on. Really put the fire to RimJob and ask him to allow an audit from you guys so you can see where the money is going. Why is your ass backwards trashy looking site so damn expensive?
Why is your "free enterprise loving" site such a ridiculously expensive piece of crap, yet our "commie pinko red diaper doper" site is kicking your sites ass?

(95,337 posts)He didn't tell me it was raging with conservative nutjobs but it was a political site and 'I might just like it'.
He was going there to keep up on the impeachment trials of Clinton.
To be honest, the site hasn't changed since then - same exact software, same exact convuluted forum that makes it difficult to follow the conversation.

(2,100 posts)I used to go there out of morbid fascination years ago. Now I get my morbid fascination fix second hand from Freeper Madness. Anyway, they mentioned DU on some thread and I thought "I should check that place out."
