Man these people are stupid!
How many will walk into a JC Penney store and buy something?
I think I need some underwear and socks, will drive out of my way to hit the JCP.

(3,978 posts)I do not think the GOP understand current dynamics or how the internet has shaped the world. Support for GLBT community will only increase the next five years. What you see now is just a prelude of good things to come.

(8,419 posts)I have an elderly Mother In Law who stated this in the 90's, maybe AIDs is God's retribution to Gays. After a moment of shock and trying to process where she would have heard such hateful nonsense, (either Rush or Robertson) I was finally able to say, how would you explain cancer.
Now she has moved out to Southern Cal, last year her goal was to get tickets to the Ellen show. I thought, maybe she hasn't put it together, although it seemed that Ellen was extremely open and I found it hard to believe a daily watcher wouldnt know. Then she commented that she knew Ellen was gay because she talked about it all the time, and darn if she still wasn't the most special person on TV.
So I think it finally hit their base, that these supposed evil people aren't evil. And even more eye opening, I think they begin to realize that some family members who visit, who they have known for their entire life, were gay. That cousin that lived on the farm across the street, who never married and was a solid member of society, except that for some strange reason always voted for Democrats, might have been gay.
I love how she ended that segment - that's what traditional values should be!!

(14,539 posts)last week. They had a comforter I was eying and after I read that they refused to back down; it was a good enough reason for me to go ahead and buy it. I did not stop there. I also got the decorative pillows, curtains, sheets. I also let the 2 sales ladies that helped me "if JCP can stand behind Ellen, I will stand behind them with my dollars" Trust me, when I was done paying for my purchase it more than made up for the supposed omm boycot.
I read some of their posts, and yes they may have 40,000 or so members, but the active members..not so much. maybe about 100.

OMM isn't going anywhere so we need your help! Occasionally we will be on break to do a clean sweep of negative comments. As you can see many bigoted minded liberals who hate Christians because of our faith are spamming our facebook page. Nothing new really, but this means we must really be getting to them. They have nothing else better to do than troll our page, but tolerance goes both ways. Scripture says we will be persecuted so this means we must be doing something right. We want to keep this page open for comments for our friends. However, as you can see some folks are always going to have a bigoted and narrow mind when our faith is expressed. Please help us by reporting these comments, and understanding that we will not be able to delete them all. You can also help by showing these lost, narrow minded liberal the true love of Jesus Christ. Thank you!

(135,425 posts)They should be ashamed of themselves! They have a lot of nerve whining about "bigoted and narrow mind(s)"--sheer chutzpah!
I think people ought to start reporting THEIR comments as "bigoted hate speech" and get those assholes wiped off that shithole known as Facebook!
What goes around, comes around!
Million Moms? Please--more like a couple of thousand Bigoted Busy-bodies.

(3,269 posts)It has been inundated with comments. At 6 this morning, they could not keep up with all of them.
However, people are now commenting on many other posts. The stuff below the Bush post is hilarious.
Some of the commenters report they are now getting spammed by OMM.
I just wrote to J.C. Penney to thank them. My partner and I both plan to make purchase there this weekend.

(4,919 posts)I'm excited to watch what happens with the JCP rebranding... Ron Johnson's previous gig was to make Apple retail stores sell more $$ per square foot than any other retail space in history.
The last time I thought about JC Penney was when I was a kid drooling over their Christmas catalog... Because I'm an Apple and Ellen fanboy... I'm gonna go buy something.

(12,132 posts)Damn near every single one I read was against OMM.
I own a lot of Dockers and Levis and polo shirts that I bought from JCP.
That's where I will continue to buy them.
Oh and yes, you can report abusive posts by OMM for being targeted at sexual orientation. My reporting finger is getting tired though. y'all help.
edit to add: By the way, whether you take the time to go laugh at OMM or not, please take a moment to go thank JC Penney for standing up to bigots and bullies: http://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/EmailUs.aspx?refpagename=CustomerService%2525252Easpx&refdeptid=&refcatid=&CmCatId=25278

(18,775 posts)A few posts down, they're complaining of the newest Macy's catalog - "The back cover looks like just a regular advertisement for their wedding registry service, but there is one major difference. When you take a closer look you see the cake topper of two men instead of the traditional man and woman." <gasp>
They go on: "Macy's must believe this is mainstream, but just because gay marriage is legal in a few states, this is inappropriate marketing and conservative customers will not support it. Please click on link to TAKE ACTION & send Macy's an email letter below asking that they discontinue their "two groom" advertisement!"
The comments are hysterical.

If you want to help them out, apply for a store credit card. I think I will now.
Also one of the few stores that carry decent Tall sizes for men.

(277 posts)Like Sears, they are no longer relevant and trying desperately to make headlines. Sears, tried it with the Kardashians, fail and now JC Penney's is trying it with Ellen. I will wait to see if they make a profit with Ellen which I doubt. Both companies need to realize they are no longer relevant and trying to be controversial will not bring people into your stores.
lunatica
(53,410 posts)I'm not being critical or snarky. I just don't see how one can be compared to the other just because they're spokespeople which is the only thing they have in common. Ellen stands for all the values she mentioned in the video upthread, while the Kardashians stand for nothing but their own self-serving fame.

(18,775 posts)They had to take down their post this morning. And lots and lots of people clicked the "Report Page" / Hate Speech / Targets based on gender or orientaton
The link is on the bottom left of the page and it would be great to see "One Million Moms" kicked off of Facebook. It's really wonderful to see that bigotry is becoming less and less popular in this country.
