Photo: NYPD knees, takes down credentialed photojournalist for multiple wire services and papers

Reached by phone, Kelly said that at the time, he was scurrying over to the site of an arrest when the beefier of two officers blindsided him with a knee to the ribs. The picture was taken in the moments immediately thereafter.

"What did you do that for? I'm press," Kelly recalled saying.

"Sorry. I didn't realize you were press," he said the officer replied. As you can see in the picture, he was carrying two cameras and was wearing his credentials over his coat around his neck.

Kelly said he has encountered some general obstruction while on assignment since: "The thing that annoys me the most is, you say, 'Hey look, I'm press!' And it doesn't seem to matter at all."

14. Captain Beefy looks more like the "Wart Hog From Hell."

Pigs are actually fairly intelligent and peaceful.

15. Credentialed.

And protester. Not as many floors between those two these days as some in the Fourth Estate would want to imagine.

7. If you had told me in 2000 that stuff like this would EVER happen in our country

I would have said you were insane.

Little by little we are becoming desensitized to the continuous encroachment on our civil rights.

16. You are absolutely right about the country's shift on 12 December.

I felt it very strongly then. I had no idea it would have as negative effect as fast as it has. It is so sad to watch this country devolve.

17. Yes. But, the process has continued with little hesitation since January 20, 2009.

Remember, when we were supposed to emerge largely unscathed from our "collective national nightmare?" Well, guess what, there's still Hell to Pay, and then some, before we finally wake up and do something big and collective. Like, wake up. This is a police state, now deal with it as such.

20. It takes a series of heavy shocks

and hard knocks to shake the thoroughly hypnotized out of their trance.

The transition into the information age will probably be a very painful one in the USA because so much corruption at the highest levels is still being hidden.

8. This is out of control! This is part of the reason why I never trust a cop. I'd trust a psycho

holding a gun to my head now at days before trusting a cop with my life.

(I am sorry if I am offending the 1% of cops out there WHO are honest and trying to do a good job BUT TOOOOOOOOO many have made so hard to trust any.)

12. Seems that having press credentials out for display doesn't protect you. It makes you a target.
