The Alleged Downing Street “Affair Pair” Named

I can’t believe that national newspapers and top of the tree politico bloggers are running scared of naming the “alleged” names being mentioned all over the Internet concerning the Downing Street Affair. Of course it needs to be remembered that it is “Alleged”.

So without further adieu the names being bandied around on twitter, Facebook and the rest of the world are; Mr Andrew Coulson and Mrs Rebekah Brooks. I make no comment as to the truth of these allegations merely the fact that these are the “Names”.

Patently obvious to all and fundamentally stupid to try to cover it what is already doing the rounds up and down the length and breadth of the UK.

I look forward to No 10s’ writ, gagging order, super injunction or withdrawal of my citizenship and a place at Bellmarsh Top Security prison. I believe the food is very good.

Rebekah Brooks:

Rebekah Mary Brooks (née Wade; born 27 May 1968) is a British journalist and former newspaper editor. She was Chief Executive Officer of News International from 2009 to 2011, having previously served as the youngest editor of a British national newspaper at News of the World[7] from 2000 to 2003, and the first female editor of The Sun[8] from 2003 to 2009. Brooks married actor Ross Kemp in 2002. They divorced in 2009[6] and she married former racehorse trainer and author Charlie Brooks.

Brooks is a prominent figure in the News International phone hacking scandal, having been the editor of the News of the World when illegal phone hacking was allegedly carried out by the newspaper. On 15 July 2011, Brooks resigned as chief executive of News International, following widespread criticism of her role in the controversy.[9] On 17 July 2011, she was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications and on suspicion of corruption - making corrupt payments to public officials.[10][11] On 13 March 2012, she was again arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.[12] On 15 May 2012, Brooks was charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.[13] Mrs Brooks said she was “baffled” by the decision to charge her.[14]

Rebekah Brooks and her husband appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on 13 June on charges linked to the phone hacking scandal. District Judge Howard Riddle told the defendants they would go on trial at a later date at Southwark Crown Court remanding Mrs Brooks and her husband on bail until the next hearing on 22 June.[15]

On 24 July 2012, the Crown Prosecution Service announced that Brooks would be charged, along with six other former members of the staff of the News of the World, with conspiring to intercept communications without lawful authority, from 3 October 2000 to 9 August 2006. In addition to this "generic" charge, Brooks would be charged with four specific counts of conspiracy to intercept communications without lawful authority. These include a charge relating to the hacking of the voicemail of the murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler.

Andy Coulson:

Andrew Edward Coulson (born 21 January 1968)[1][2] is an English journalist and political strategist.

Coulson was the editor of the News of the World from 2003 until his resignation in 2007, following the conviction of one of the newspaper's reporters in relation to illegal phone-hacking.

He subsequently joined David Cameron's personnel as communications director, until announcing his departure on 21 January 2011 because of continued media coverage of the phone-hacking affair.[3][4] He was replaced on 2 February 2011 by former BBC Global News Controller of English Craig Oliver.[5] Coulson was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Service on 8 July 2011 "in connection with allegations of corruption and phone hacking".[6]

He was detained and charged with perjury by Strathclyde Police on 30 May 2012.[7][8][9]

He should just be thankful the Lib Dems are not going to pull out of the coalition.

I see that they now have fixed dates for elections and can not call early elections anymore. Only no confidence votes can trigger an early election now.
