They gave you a contraption that can cause an abortion

It was a plastic tube with a metal inserter

What you did was feel your uterus for a small hole and place the plastic tube against said small hole

Then push the metal object into that small hole in order to abort said fetus

If all goes well, you abort...if not YOU DIE

This is the metal hanger type of abortion..it was not a hanger..but it was really close.

I knew college women who went that route.

Of course, if your parents had money and your family was "respectable" then chances are your doctor would arrange a D & C (dilation and currettage - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dilation_and_curettage) after which you were no longer in an inconvenient condition for your family.

I had school classmates who went that route.

Those were the ways that women who had at least some money got abortions.
