Washington Post:Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant (R) said Tuesday that Americas educational troubles began when women began working outside the home in large numbers.
Bryant was participating in a Washington Post Live event focused on the importance of ensuring that children read well by the end of third grade. In response to a question about how America became so mediocre in regard to educational outcomes, he said:

I think both parents started working. And the mom is in the work place.

The problem is poverty, and mothers in poverty have always had to work, cleaning houses, watching other people's kids, etc.

...own companies that won't pay Dad a decent wage, so Mom has no choice but to work "outside the home." And if someone were to suggest to him that he propose legislation to force his corporate masters to pay Dad a decent wage, he would end up totally befuddled, and would be incapable of making the connection.
