"They want to make an example of me, saying, 'You don't fucking come after us.'"

In April, the FBI quietly raided the home of the hacker known as KYAnonymous in connection with his role in the Steubenville rape case. Today he spoke out for the first time about the raid, his true identity, and his motivations for pursuing the Steubenville rapists, in an extensive interview with Mother Jones.
"The goal of the media interviews is to get the entire nation to say 'fuck you' to these guys," said KYAnonymous, whose real name is Deric Lostutter. He was referring to the federal agents who raided his home in Winchester, Kentucky, and carted off his computers and XBox.
Lostutter may deserve more credit than anyone for turning Steubenville into a national outrage. After a 16-year-old girl was raped by two members of the Steubenville High football team last year, he obtained and published tweets and Instagram photos in which other team members had joked about the incident and belittled the victim. He now admits to being the man behind the mask in a video posted by another hacker on the team's fan page, where he threatened action against the players unless they apologized to the girl. (The rapists were convicted in March.)
A 26-year-old corporate cybersecurity consultant, Lostutter lives on a farm with his pit bull, Thor, and hunts turkeys, goes fishing, and rides motorcycles in his free time. He considers himself to be a patriotic American; he flies an American flag and enjoys Bud Light. He's also a rapper with the stage name Shadow, and recently released a solo album under the aegis of his own label, Nightshade Records. The name dovetails with that of his Anonymous faction, KnightSec.

PZ Myers just posted this story and commented, "Only rapists are allowed privacy now ."
What is WRONG with this country, where one can get more time behind bars for leaking the names of later-convicted rapists or releasing a video of the US military attacking foreign civilians than raping a girl?

(29,047 posts)My guess is that since rape of a high school girl doesn't threaten the government's illusion of authority and power as much as other two crimes, they don't feel the need to harm the rapists as much. Just a guess.

(62,325 posts)Is it just me or is this country going mad? War Criminals get medals, those who report War Crimes get jail. Rapists nearly get away with it, but someone exposes them and HE gets in trouble with the FBI.
The Tea Party disrupt Congressmembers holding Town Hall meetings with their constituents to the point where they have to cancel them, show up armed at political rallies, threaten revolution against the the US Government, spiton a Civil Rights hero, Rep. Lewis, and member of Congress, no robo cops beat them to a pulp and only one arrest AFTER the fact of the spitter.
US war veterans peacefully protesting, unarmed, are beaten nearly to death at an OWS demonstration, one of them has his spleen ruptured from the beating and is denied medical care for 18 hours, the other loses his voice after being shot at with a dangerous weapon by a Robo Cop and nearly killed, while those who tried to help him are also attacked by the police.
No comment from our government about the brutal treatment of peaceful demonstrators. Thousands of arrests of peaceful demonstrators, few if any, of armed, angry, disruptive Tea Partiers.
Something is wrong when criminals are protected and those who try to stop them are attacked.
