Now that a Democratic President Openly Supports the Drone Program and NSA Spying...

the cheap politics of these issues are dismissed, and now, it's up to the public to elect leaders, either Repubs or Dems, who will vote to stop these programs or restrain them.

For example, let's say that Obama came out against both and stopped them cold, and another major terrorist by foreign interests happens. Then, the Republicans would use it as a cheap political issue much like they used in the Cold War throughout the 70s and 80s. They would run on re-instating these programs and appear stronger on "war on terror".

The cheap politics of the "war on terror" are over, and now we can have a sober debate about security vs privacy. The issue is now in the hands of the American people to decide if they want to take back their privacy or not.

but I'm fine with the President using drones against our enemies, and collecting nearly insignificant facts about overseas phone calls. I really don't believe that the average Joe has anything to worry about here.

In any case, it's crystal clear that both the worst of the Rethuglicans and the most progressive possible electable Democratic chief executives are going to do both things, the question is, do you think that our side will do at least a marginally better job of making decisions than their side, or not? I'll go with our side making the better choices.

now with the American people. It's up to the American people to use these issues when considering their choices for federal elections.

The key point is that the Republicans cannot score cheap political points off this issue.

Only we can choose between Republicons who will spy on us, and Democrats who will spy on us. I guess I have to choose the side which only cares about terrorist activity, and against the side that cares about not only terrorists, but about what my thoughts are on their religion.

It's truly about picking the lesser of two evils.
