Real word.Spying...not cocktail circuit idealism

Say what you want and wring your hands if you please about spying.. but if there is a successful nuclear, biological or chemical attack on an American city then we wont be sitting around talking about "rights" anymore.

This is the real world and in the real world there are people that want to kill us...and they dont play by any rules and we can drop the idealism because frankly, it's either them or us.

We want the government to protect us but we seem unwilling to give up anything in return...and if we accept Obama's word the spying was not that intrusive. ( and we did vote for Obama, didnt we? Doesnt that imply a degree of trust?)

Yes I understand the danger but does everyone understand the danger of a successful terrorist attack, not only in terms of lives lost and property damaged but in terms of people's loss of confidence in a free society? Look what happened after 9-11, then multiply that by one hundred or a thousand..that is what will happen if we get hit with a dirty bomb..

Here's dialogue from A Few Good Men Men that captures the situation;

Col. Nathan R. Jessep:
"You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. "

Lieutenant J.G. Daniel Kaffe:
I want the truth!

Col. Nathan R. Jessep:
You can't handle the truth!

This is the real world..my friends..not some debating society.. and I am willing to understand the world we live in is not ideal..

We kissed the Fourth Amendment goodbye many, many years ago thanks to the War on Drugs. We on the left told y'all that it would turn into a war on Americans and our civil rights, but y'all were too worried your kids would smoke pot.

This has been going on for decades, and yes, it is open to serious abuse, especially when bored agent decides to go fishing.

That abuse is why we got the Fourth.

Calling an end to the Drug War and all the hideously bad legislation (like forefeiture) that it spawned will help us get it back.

Just don't think it all started when Obama took office. This garbage has gone on for decades.

terrorists to that degree. Surely we are not that cowardly as a nation, to see terrorists under the bed, in the closets and everywhere.
