Riot police descend on central London as G8 protests begin

More than 100 officers surrounded a reported squat in Beak Street, Soho, London, occupied by anti-G8 protesters ahead of the “Carnival Against Capitalism".

The protest comes ahead of the two-day summit of world leaders in Northern Ireland next week.

The Stop G8 group’s website described the former Soho police station as a “convergence centre” and clamed it was being raided by officers this morning, as both ends of the street were cordoned off.
