I and three of my daughters have serious problems with autoimmune disease:

Lupus, Fibromylagia, Sjogren's Syndrome and Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. There are pallative treatments for these, but nothing that really gets to the root of the problem, and nothing that really addresses the more serious symptoms without side effects. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to hear of this:

Biomechanics experts at Southern Methodist University have teamed with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban to carry out a scientific study of the unsavory practice of player flopping in basketball and other sports.

Flopping is a player’s deliberate act of falling, or recoiling unnecessarily from a nearby opponent, to deceive game officials. Athletes engage in dramatic flopping to create the illusion of illegal contact, hoping to bait officials into calling undeserved fouls on opponents.

The phenomenon is considered a widespread problem in professional basketball and soccer. To discourage the practice, the National Basketball Association in 2012 began a system of escalating fines against NBA players suspected of flopping, including during the playoffs, “NBA announces anti-flopping rules for playoffs.”

The Cuban-owned company Radical Hoops Ltd. awarded a grant of more than $100,000 to fund the 18-month research study at SMU, Dallas.

They do it to CHEAT.. If a ref gives the foul/red-yellow card, they gain advantage..

Now send the money where it can save a life.

for your immune system, have you tried an alkaline diet? I know it sounds like just one more off the wall thing that people are touting, but it helped me a lot.

I have no clue why I felt better on these, but the yeast overgrowth diet definitely helped. As did South Beach back when I was just trying to get my cholesterol in check. Both lay off sugar, simple carbs, etc. But with the yeast one, getting off wheat was really helpful. So perhaps it was related to gluten which seems to be bad for autoimmune conditions.

6. It's the notion of money being spent on this when so much research is needed in other areas.

I suppose it's possible that the research will aid in the design of prosthetics or some such, but I doubt it.

My daughter has to autoimmune disorders, one which will ultimately require a liver transplant (and which currently put her at risk for colon, pancreatic, liver, bile duct, and gall bladder cancer). But $100,000 is a drop in the research bucket. It would provide meds for 2 kids with PSC for a year of the most promising treatment ever for her disease. There have been 14 case studies reported, and most docs still won't even talk to us about using it off label because there aren't double blind studies of sufficient size.

10. Some of diseases she listed are killers; "flopping" is a cheating technique in sports

The autoimmune diseases she listed are hereditary and in the case of lupus (SLE), deadly. They are all diseases of the connective tissues that cause pain, discomfort, suffering and even death along with untold billions in treatment. There are no effective treatments; no cures; no way to prevent them and what treatment there is is not terribly effective, is somewhat toxic, and is largely just palliative.

have a strange medical history. There isn't money to study it so they finally lumped me and the few others in with another group. Funny, but for years they told us that we absolutely didn't fit in that group. I guess there weren't enough of us to make it worth a drug company's while to research, so the immune docs gave up. On the bright side, at least they know we exist now. And treat us - even though the treatment is better suited for the other group.

deficiency that's rare. And fibromyalgia and allergies and asthma. Normally allergies and immune deficiency don't go together. But with this particular immune deficiency, they do occur together. And being treated with the same stuff they give the other immune deficiency patients makes the allergies even worse, which in turn causes more respiratory infections. But it does help other infections.

It means I have to take antibiotics daily for life, as well as inhaled steroids and all sorts of other crap. Not to mention the fibromyalgia treatment and migraine treatment. Sometimes I swear it's a wonder I can converse above a grammar school level.

I have struggled with migraines, allergies and I had polio...kinda feels like fibromyalgia as we age. I had the throw-up kind of migraines at least 4 times per year, and minor ones frequently... but no more. Read about magnesium oil - we are all so deficit of it because of over farming. It's cheap, I buy the flakes on the net and make my own - I like lotion vs spray... and use it everyday 2 or 3 times per day for about 3 months and then you can reduce. Your muscles will feel better, nerves. It's amazing. If your feet hurt, put some on - ahhhhhhh....

Immune support and allergies - garlic, lemon, ginger tea. It's made an incredible difference with my allergies. Make it strong, and make enough for a couple days - store in glass jars. Drink a couple cups per day, then reduce as you feel better. This tea works fairly quickly.

Antibiotics will weaken your immune system.

Also garlic is an amazing natural muscle relaxer as is magnesium, which should help with your fibro. - the tea won't make you smell if you use a 1/2 or whole lemon.
