At least the judge seemed to feel bad about it.

Long story short I was pulled over in VA for having a front license plate but not a back one. days earlier I had been rear ended on the freeway and the plate went flying off into traffic. new bumper put on but not a new plate yet.

It was a very odd traffic stop. 2 unmarked police vehicles and 4 officers. 2 minutes later a third unmarked, 2 more officers and a k-9. I had half the police force there for a missing back plate.

Cop runs front plate and my license. everythings cool. tells me to get back plate. says 'o by the way do you mind if we search the vehicle, i said thank you but no. they offered again, i politely refused again. he says 'well unfortunately we already have the k-9 here to run around your car and you arent allowed to refuse that so please exit the vehicle.' dog does his thing. cops pull out half a joint from somewhere i dont even remember it being there or i would have smoked it. 3 cops a dog and 20 minutes of searching and they find half a joint.

every cop ive ever known would have taken it and sent me on my way with a warning. its half a joint. these fuckers wrote me up. sent me to court. i guess to justify 7 cops 3 cars a k-9 and half an hour of their time.

judge apologized to me for the law said he couldnt do anything about it and said it was his job to make my life a pain in the ass the next 6-12 months.

one of the reasons i have absolutely almost zero respect for law enforcement and society as a whole sometimes.

They train those dogs to find drugs, yes, but they also train them to give their, "I smell drugs," indicator from some non-verbal sign from the cop. So if the cop really wants to search your car - and by refusing them, they probably really, really wanted to - even if the dog doesn't find anything, it will act like it does, giving the cop "reason" to search your vehicle.
