Lew went on Face the Conservatives and State of the Right Wing & Told Bishops That Clowntime is Over

White House: No More Compromise on Contraception

Mr. Lew said the president put out a solid plan, and when asked whether there is more room for compromising said, “No. This is our plan.”

In an appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Mr. Lew said, “We’re going to go ahead and implement it.” He said the White House has “broad consensus – not universal consensus – that this is an approach that’s right.”

They don't even hide it, do they?

They should use your show titles, rather than their own misleading ones...

The Sunday news shows are nothing but a Rightwing Circle Jerk.

But I do have them to thank for being on DU. My daughter, who was already a member here, got fed up with me yelling at the TV one Sunday morning. She just about made me join DU as she was tired of my rants.

And here I am! Haven't seen a Sunday Circle Jerk in years! (Don't have TV anymore either, which helps )

But the track record of this administration so far doesn't inspire me with much confidence. Their motto seems to be, "Okay, I moved a little, how about you? No? Well, I'll move a little more. How about now?" Lather, rinse, repeat.

with this ridiculous attack on contraception, and all of these men blabbing about how they shouldn't have to pay for it, they are crazy.

Contraception is a medical issue for many women, and they take it for reasons other than to prevent pregnancy. Ignorant men who know nothing about women's health issues need to shut the hell up and tend to their own business. They wouldn't put up with someone else telling them what medications they could take or not take for their medical issues, so why on earth do they think women are going to put up with it?

This is exactly where I've always predicted this was going every time the abortion debate got brought up. It has to do with controlling women's health issues because some people are so stupid they don't realize that women take birth control for a variety of reasons besides "I want to sleep around".

But that doesn't affect the political calculation going on here, which seems to be along the lines of, "Well, who else are women going to vote for?" And, since the administration feels it has a certain percentage of the women's vote locked up, they're free to pander to low information voters who are gulled by nutball conservatives. The problem, of course, as it has been for three years, is that the nutballs can't be won over through compromise, and the low information voters will hear only one side (the nutball side) of this nontroversy, and conclude that somehow the Kenyan Muslim Socialist Obama is trying to destroy the Catholic Church.

It would be one thing if there was a chance of winning over some folks by compromising, but the pattern seems to be to piss off the base while still not pulling someone over from the other side. At this point, the best-looking outcome is the nutballs standing on their extreme position, and the administration telling them to go suck eggs. But that would require a re-frame of the issue from "religious freedom" yammering to reasonable insurance coverage for women and people who like/love women. I'm not sure this administration is up to the task.

No contraception. No sex.

And we women need to make sure that we stand by our word when we say that.

The majority of men will soon be quite willing to pay the cost of contraception.
