Former Miss America Called 'Street Walker' by Local GOP Leader

A former Miss America winner who is now a GOP candidate for Congress was called a string of profane names today, including "street walker," "love child" and "Miss Queen. " Her attacker? A local Republican Party chairman in central Illinois.

Erika Harold, the 2003 winner of the Miss America contest, announced two weeks ago that she was running from Illinois' 13th District. Her decision to challenge Rep. Rodney Davis in the Republican primary has divided some local party members and prompted the name-calling. A full account of the episode first appeared in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Harold, a 33-year-old graduate of Harvard Law School, is black. The criticism against her - from Jim Allen, chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Party - carried strong racist overtones.

<snip>

"The little queen touts her abstinence, and she won the crown because she got bullied in school - boohoo, kids are cruel, life sucks and you move on," Allen wrote. "Now, Miss Queen is being used like a street walker, and her pimps are the DEMOCRAT PARTY and RINO REPUBLICANS."

And it's not about being a woman -

He's playing on the Sapphire and Jezebel 'stereotypes'.

He knows what they are, the code, and and he's using them. It has nothing to do with 'Women' - he is attacking a black woman.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh - - but wait.

At the new DU - SHE actually said it about HIM because no white male is eveeeeeeeeeeeer racist.

There are no red states or blue states, all of them are red, white and blue. Those attempting to Balkanize our world are the ones who won't recognize the geography of our country.

to simplify it to only the “southern strategy.” It's also not proof that we're the "tea party base." You're making broad generalizations.

Again, the southern states aren't voting 100% republican, as in everyone eligible to vote is only voting R. Y'all love to bash on us so much that you're more than happy to throw the rest of us under the bus just to get at the republicans, or "prove" we're not worth being part of the union...

You'll have to ask the architects of it.

The tea party is across the entire nation, not based in one area. You're still biasing yourself against us based on the opinion that we always vote republican. Have a look at that voting map from 2012 based on population density and notice there's a hell of a lot more blue than too many on DU seem to want to admit:

Really articulates this well in her book. It's why even during the Great Migration North black women were viewed as detrimental to their new communities - unclean, lascivious, "loose", not great homemakers, poorly rearing their children. . .

Today she is a mix of Jezebel and Sapphire. But these stereotypes are so ingrained in our culture - that when we try to point out the stereotype is "accepted" and in indeed exists - we get shot down. At minimum - patted on the head and either sent on our way or told to shut up and go's it in the corner.

Non-white, woman, highly intelligent, exceedingly well educated, plainly stunningly beautiful, and Republican. What gives?

However, looking at the district, she may be a brilliant choice for the Republicans. The district included parts or all of:

- Decatur, with a large minority community in a city that typically goes very Democrat
- Champaign Urbana, a liberal college town, where she grew up and went to University, also typically Democrat
- Springfield, with a large minority population
- The south end of Bloomington/Normal

My guess is that the rest of the district is pretty red, and votes pretty much straight ticket Republican.

If the Republicans play this one right, and the Illinois Republicans get their house in order, she has the potential to go a long way. Think about it, from Illinois (from birth, even), apparently mixed race, articulate, intelligent, went to Harvard Law School. Does that sound like somebody else of whom you might have heard?

She was also proclaimed the most beautiful woman in the United States, in a highly competitive and political process.

If the Republicans actually come to their senses (small chance, I admit), this could be a tipping point in the Republican Party.

She is definitely somebody to watch.

TPM Livewire - Illinois GOP Pol Resigns Over ‘Street Walker’ Comments: http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/illinois-gop-pol-resigns-over-street-walker-comments

The Illinois GOP official who sent an email describing a black female congressional candidate as a "street walker" resigned Thursday after his remarks drew national attention and a rebuke from the Republican National Committee chairman, the St. Louis-Dispatch reported.

Montgomery County Republican Party Chairman Jim Allen, a supporter of Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL), drew the ire of the likes of RNC Chairman Reince Priebus for a disparaging email he sent Republican News Watch about former Miss America Erika Harold, who will challenge Davis in the 2014 primary race. Allen wrote that Harold is a "love child of the D.N.C.” who is being "used like a street walker" to take the congressional seat from Davis.

Allen told the Springfield State Journal-Register on Wednesday, after his e-mail was published on Republican News Watch, that his comments were “very inappropriate and wrong, and I apologize to Miss Harold and her campaign and her supporters.”

Guess he's out on the street, walking around, looking for a new opportunity to be an uncivil idiot.
