Sunday Talk Shows

Glenn Greenwald
I'll be on Meet the Press this morning, near the top of the hour, talking NSA revelations & Snowden
(just added)

Meet the Press
Can a new breakthrough on border security improve the chances for immigration reform? And when it comes to government surveillance, are the right safeguards in place to ensure Americans’ right to privacy?

We’ll break it all down Sunday with our bipartisan panel of lawmakers: Assistant Democratic Leader Sen. Dick Durbin Ranking member of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee and immigration “Gang of 8” member, Sen. Tom Coburn, Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Mike Rogers and Rep. Loretta Sanchez

The dysfunction continues on Capitol Hill after a farm bill that was expected to pass with broad bipartisan support surprisingly fails in the House. Plus, as the president returns from his overseas trip, the administration is still struggling to find their footing. Is there a leadership vacuum in Washington? What will it mean for the future of immigration reform and the budget? We’ll have insights and analysis on the politics behind the legislative battles on Capitol Hill from our roundtable: NBC News Political Contributor Robert Gibbs Republican Strategist Mike Murphy Democratic Mayor of Atlanta Kasim Reed; Fmr. Chair and CEO of Hewlett Packard, Carly Fiorina and NBC News Political Director and Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd

ABC This Week
In a “This Week” Sunday exclusive, George Stephanopoulos goes one-on-one with National Security Agency Director Gen. Keith Alexander on the NSA’s surveillance programs.

How critical have the NSA’s phone and internet surveillance programs been in thwarting potential terrorist plots against the U.S. since Sept. 11? Has the surveillance gone too far, threatening the privacy of innocent Americans? And what damage has been done to U.S. intelligence-gathering by ongoing leaks about the NSA’s programs?

Gen. Keith Alexander answers those questions and more in his first Sunday morning television interview as NSA Director, only on “This Week” Sunday.

Plus, the “This Week” foreign policy roundtable debates the latest on the NSA surveillance programs and the conflicts in Syria and Afghanistan, with ABC News Chief Global Affairs Correspondent Martha Raddatz, Council on Foreign Relations president Richard Haass, and co-founder of the Foreign Policy Initiative Dan Senor

And the powerhouse roundtable debates all the week’s politics, including the battle over immigration reform and the state of the economy, with Rep. Joaquín Castro, D-Texas; Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Penn., ABC News Chief Business and Economics Correspondent Rebecca Jarvis; former Lead Auto Adviser and Counselor to the Treasury Secretary Steven Rattner, now chair of Willett Advisors; and Amity Shlaes, director of The 4% Growth Project at The George W. Bush Institute.

Plus, in our Sunday Spotlight, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, the youngest woman in Congress and an Iraq War veteran, discusses the role of women in combat.

CNN State of The Union
As the Senate gets closer to a deal on immigration reform, the House moves further away. We’ll talk to the leader of the Gang of 8,Senator Chuck Schumer. Then, he’s at odds with the administration over almost everything, but will the 2016 presidential hopeful get on board with immigration reform? Our Sunday exclusive with Senator Rand Paul

Plus, the president is losing the support of his base. We’ll sort it out with our panel: Dan Balz of The Washington Post, Dana Bash, Chief Congressional Correspondent for CNN, and CNN contributors Stephanie Cutter and Kevin Madden

CBS Face the Nation
The big question in Washington right now...how difficult will it be to get an immigration bill through the Congress?

Well just yesterday, the House unexpectedly voted down the farm bill after Republican leadership was unable to secure enough votes from its own party. Now there is concern that the same thing might happen on the immigration bill if and when it passes the Senate and is sent to the House for a vote.

The Senate has brokered an immigration deal that centers around Sen. Bob Corker's (R-TN) amendment to significantly enhance security at the nation's borders, including doubling the number of border patrol agents on the US-Mexico border. Most people think this amendment will convince many more Republicans to vote for this bill. But the surprising failure of the Farm Bill yesterday raised questions -- if in fact the Senate is able to pass the immigration bill, what will happen to it when it get to the house?

What I find it interesting, disheartening and somewhat disappointing about this debate is that even when both sides want to do something they still cannot figure out how to get it done. Republicans say that negotiation is not happening because the President makes speeches and does not engage in conversation about the issues. That is interesting because it seems that now everyone is making speeches and not listening to one another. We're facing the same reality that we've faced for the past couple of years: we have a Congress that is basically unable to do anything.

This weekend we are going to have Sen. Bob Corker on Face the Nation to talk to us about this immigration bill and his specific proposal to strengthen border security. We will also talk to Sen. Jeff Sessions who opposes the bill. These interviews should shed light on the dimensions of the immigration fight that's happening within the Republican party.

We'll also continue our coverage of the NSA surveillance story. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, will bring us the latest news on that subject.

Finally, we'll get an update from CBS' own Clarissa Ward on what is happening in Syria and Afghanistan. And we'll get analysis from John Dickerson of CBS News, Gerald Seib of the Wall Street Journal, Susan Page of USA Today and Bobby Ghosh of Time Magazine.

Fox News Sunday
Is Congress closer to passing comprehensive immigration reform? The bill proposed by the Gang of Eight hit the Senate floor even as changes continued to be made; including a deal over border security. But even if the bill passes through the Senate, does it have a chance in the House? We talk with Gang of Eight member Senator Lindsey Graham and an opponent to the bill Senator Mike Lee

There’s less than a week to go until Massachusetts voters decide who will take over John Kerry’s vacant Senate seat. Will voters play it safe or go for the political wild card? Republican candidate, Gabriel Gomez joins Chris Wallace only on Fox News Sunday.

60 Minutes
Evidence of Innocence - Michael Morton was finally freed when DNA evidence exonerated him after 25 years in prison; he speaks out in his first interview. As Lara Logan reports, Morton's case is one of a series of high profile wrongful convictions that have cast a harsh light on prosecutors.

Crackdown in Russia - Female punk protest band Pussy Riot piqued the ire of Russian authorities after they staged an anti-Putin rally in Moscow's largest cathedral. The subsequent viral video of the stunt and stiff prison sentences for some of its members made the band a cause celebre.

Design Thinking - The term refers to incorporating human behavior into design and David Kelley and his Silicon Valley company IDEO have used this approach to create some of the world's most iconic products, like the stand-up toothpaste tube and the computer mouse for Apple.

Melissa Harris Perry Show
What does it mean to be a black man in America in the year 2013? Does the election of a black president mean all racial barriers and inequalities have disintegrated? OK–no. Of course not. But it gets more complicated from there. While high school graduation rates for black men are up, so too are incarceration rates. Unemployment rates are coming down nationwide–now at 7.6%–but for young black men, hover at about 30%. There is a legacy from slavery to Jim Crow to today’s incarceration nation that forms the thesis of this week’s Newsweek cover story“The Fight for Black Men.” The author of that article, along with an incredible panel of African-American men appear in studio with host Melissa Harris-Perry Sunday morning

Our show will head back to Raleigh, N.C., bringing you the latest on Moral Mondays. This week our focus will shift to the Civitas Institute. Turns out Civitas, a conservative think tank led by millionaire Art Pope, has created a database of the protesters who have been arrested. The database includes personal details such as the protester’s employer, race, and interest group affiliation. Civitas has even gone so far as to create a guessing game called “Pick the Protester.”

Join us as Harris-Perry and our panel break down what the American Medical Association’s move to officially classify obesity as a disease really means. The ruling holds no legal weight officially, but could be a step in the right direction when it comes to prioritizing preventative care in America. More than a third of Americans officially qualify as obese. What does it mean that the AMA now says all those people have a disease?

On March 18, 1963, the Supreme Court–led by Chief Justice Earl Warren–ruled on the case Gideon v. Wainwright making it a law that all criminal defendants have the right to a court appointed lawyer. Being a defense attorney is often viewed as a thankless and morally objectionable job but a new HBO documentary, “Gideon’s Army,” follows a group of defense attorneys to better understand their profession. On Sunday, Harris-Perry will sit down with the film’s director, and two of the defense attorneys featured in the movie to find out why these individuals choose to do what they do despite the low pay, their controversial clients, and the frustrating realities of a broken criminal justice system

The close of Pam’s House Blend at the end of the show

I go get the Times and an Egg McMuffin.

Scan other news on the IPad, read the hard copy paper, devour the book section and magazine, do the crossword and cruise the "best of" on DU.

I used to be a devotee of the Sunday Shows, but the quality and newsworthiness of them has deteriorated so much that I have created my own little oasis of a sort. The silence from my TV is soothing.
