Groups sue NJ for funding religious schools

The American Civil Liberties Union is suing New Jersey, claiming that the state's plan to give more than $11 million to religious schools is unlawful.

The state announced in April that it planned to give $10.6 million to a Talmudic studies center in Lakewood, Beth Medrash Govoha.

New Jersey is also slated to give $645,323 to Princeton Theological Seminary.

The ACLU and other groups say providing taxpayer money to religious institutions violates the state constitution.

Princeton Theological Seminary declined comment. Beth Medrash Govoha did not respond to a phone call.

The ACLU's national and New Jersey chapters and Americans United for Separation of Church and State filed the lawsuit Monday in Trenton.

The Legislature has until Friday to reject the projects

they should pay taxes on what they take in...and they should receive NOTHING financially from the government.

Le them say whatever they like, support whomever they choose to support, but they must do it with TAXED money...and they should get NO government subsidies.

Religious entities might just decide that political stuff just costs them too much and maybe they would go back to saving souls
