The party leader Øystein Jakobsen would meet with Snowden when he landed on Sunday evening, according to the partys twitter account.
- We have received information from our international umbrella party, the Pirate Parties International (PPI), that he will stop in Norway. The reason is that this is probably the quickest and easiest way to fly to Iceland, says Tale Østrådal from the Pirate Party to TV2 Norway
Øsrådal also said that Pirate Party in Iceland confirmed Snowdens stay in the country. Iceland has become a haven for people like him, almost a "Pirate Island," says Østrådal.
The paty leader Jakobsen, on the other hand, thanked the former agent. He has sacrificed his whole life for something he felt wrong. What he has done is exemplary. He has sacrificed a life of freedom to inform the public about a serious infringement, says Jakobsen to TV 2

(8,127 posts)that this isn't going to work out for him ..
even if he does make it to Iceland.
we have a lot of leverage there these days as we are now their biggest trading partner.. they currently have a pretty conservative government too...
it can take over a year for an application to even be approved from my understanding...
besides..
for all we know INTERPOL has issued a warrant and kept it sealed so nobody but law enforcement agencies know as to not alert him to it..
.. and if all else fails...
people tend to have a funny way of having a car crash (as weve seen lately) when they've angered the wrong people..

(8,127 posts)again, we are THE biggest investor in Iceland these days.. our economic sway over them right now during their recovery is huge...we signed new trade agreements with them back in 2009...
not to mention they are a member of NATO...
and btw, a msg posted on the internetz of tweets from Birgitta Jónsdóttir says
"#Snowden is as far as i know still in #Moscow - the news about him being in #Oslo is due to a VERY bad translation from #Norwegian #Iceland "
