CNN announces 'Crossfire' relaunch

It's official: CNN has announced that it will relaunch "Crossfire," its longstanding political debate show, this fall.

As previously reported here, former Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich and former Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter will both serve as co-hosts. Gingrich will be joined on the conservative side by S.E. Cupp, the MSNBC co-host, New York Daily News columnist and TheBlaze contributor; Cutter will be joined on the liberal side by Van Jones, a CNN contributor and former green jobs advisor to the Obama administration.

“Few programs in the history of CNN have had the kind of impact on political discourse that Crossfire did – it was a terrific program then, and we believe the time is right to bring it back and do it again,” CNN president Jeff Zucker said in a statement. “We look forward to the opportunity to host passionateconversation from all sides of the political spectrum. Crossfire will be the forum where America holds its great debates.”

Crossfire, which launched in 1982, was originally hosted by Pat Buchanan and Tom Braden, and featured subsequent co-hosts Robert Novak, Tucker Carlson, James Carville, Paul Begala and Bill Press, among others. It ran until 2005, making it the longest-running political debate show in cable news history.

UPDATE (9:45 a.m.): CNN executives have discussed airing the show at 6:30 p.m. on weeknights, though a final decision has yet to be announced, sources tell POLITICO.

6. More Sippee Cupp--great.

Hopefully, she'll be leaving MSNBC since she doesn't really fit in and her opinions and attitudes suck. The best fit for her really is Faux News, but since CNN is trying so hard to be Faux News II, I'm sure she'll be quite comfortable there.

I won't be watching--I find Newt Gingrich to be REPULSIVE. His values are horrendous, his morals have decayed to the point where they're non-existent (if he ever had any to start with), and he's generally just another loud mouthed, right wing liar.

7. Cupp Leaving MSNBC?

I saw this yesterday and wondered if that meant S.E. Cupp was leaving MSNBC. I think both MSNBC and CNN could have found a better person to represent the Republican view. Although I do not watch the show which Cupp co-hosts, on MSNBC, I have seen her on other MSNBC shows. I thought she said a number of the things she said were foolish.

9. A desperate attempt at shit stirring to regain market share

That show was very nearly unwatchable when they finally put it out of its misery.

Media outlets like CNN are determined to portray every issue in America as a fight between "liberal" vs. "conservative" so we'll ignore the real division in the country - namely the division between "the few people with all the money" vs. "the rest of us".

It ain't working so much anymore, a lot of people are starting to wake up.

12. There are few things more grating than S.E. Cupp's voice.

I literally cannot bear to hear it. I have to mute the TV. Of course, I never watch her show but occasionally she is a guest on one I am watching and I would be physically ill if I had to hear her...

14. CNN is right up there with FOX and CBS now for my viewing.

The C stations are trying to be clones of FOX. It's a shame that CBS decided it couldn't preserve a little of the integrity it used to have.
