I think this is the conundrum and gets back to what you were saying in the opening whether or not churches should decide this, Paul said on Glenn Becks radio show Wednesday morning. But it is difficult because if we have no laws on this people take it to one extension further. Does it have to be humans? You know, I mean. So there really are the question is what social mores, can some social mores be part of legislation?
Historically, we did at the state legislative level, we did allow for some social mores to be part of it, the Kentucky Republican continued. Some of them were said to be for health reasons and otherwise, but Im kind of with you, I see the thousands-of-year tradition of the nucleus of the family unit. I also see that economically, if you just look without any kind of moral periscope and you say, what is it that is the leading cause of poverty in our country? Its having kids without marriage. The stability of the marriage unit is enormous and we should not just say oh were punting on it, marriage can be anything.
Paul had previously said he opposed DOMA, a federal law that prohibited same-sex couples from receiving federal marriage rights and protections. However, he only opposed the law because it potentially gave the Supreme Court an opening to legalize same-sex marriages nationwide.

Rand Pauls debate interrupted by Aqua BuddhaThe Kentucky Tea Partier and his Democratic opponent argue about Paul's college days and an old prank kidnapping
By Alex Pareene, October 18., 2010
Rand Pauls debate last night with Democratic opponent Jack Conway turned very ugly. Conway has begun running ads that reference Pauls now-infamous membership in a secret college group called the NoZe Brotherhood. The Brotherhood was dedicated to blasphemy, and they once staged a joke kidnapping of a female student, whom they forced to worship an idol they called the Aqua Buddha.
All the story shows is that in college, Rand Paul probably enjoyed smoking weed. (And he may not have taken his faith all that seriously.) The woman says the entire thing was weird but not especially threatening.*
So at his debate last night, Rand went off on Conway for referencing the incident. Paul went all-out on the aggrieved outrage. He accused Conway of attacking a mans religious beliefs to gain higher office. He said Conway should be ashamed of himself...
Why did he freely join a group known for mocking, for making fun of people with faith? Conway asked during the debate. When is it ever a good idea to tie up a woman and ask her to kneel before a false idol, your god, which you call Aqua Buddha?
http://www.salon.com/2010/10/18/rand_paul_debate_aqua_buddha/
*Rand-holm Syndrome: Kidnap victim defends THC Party candidate
...They never hurt me, they never did anything wrong, the unnamed woman told GQ, but the whole thing was kind of sadistic...
Today, the Washington Posts Greg Sargent got an exclusive with the woman, who totally vindicated Paul by saying she was never kidnapped! Except that her story did not change, at all the facts of it are the same she just doesnt consider it a proper, illegal kidnapping.
The Paul campaign, obviously, was thrilled to see that false and salacious kidnapping story debunked, because words dont mean anything anymore, which is how he was able to deny illegally kidnapping someone while never addressing the actual incident, and now claim that that nonexistent charge was completely shot down by a reiteration of what he actually did do.
Also, uh:
In our conversation, she elaborated that she doesnt want her name in print because shes a clinical psychologist who works with former members of the military, some of whom are Tea Partyers, and fears that complicating Pauls Senate run could put her in danger.

you know damn well someones intent of doing an action is different than their facial features or looks.
he would have been a hero if he had kept his actions to whistleblowing.
unfortunately he might have let those foreign countries have a look at his laptop and info he had..
and im sorry but by definition that makes him a traitor and chargeable with treason.
he only is giving them more reason.
does that make spying on americans okay?
of course not.
but doesn't make him in the right for his latter actions if they turn out to be true.
its kind of the job of intelligence agencies to spy on other nations tho.. and giving said foreign nations classified info about that sort of thing is definitely a violation of law here.

I suppose a human could marry a corporation since the same Supreme Court that declared corporations to be persons with constitutional rights decided that DOMA was unconstitutional.
But corporations have been marrying without regard for gender for years now. They just call their marriages mergers and takeovers.

As far as marriage equality among human beings, I am absolutely for it. I am not huge on thanking politicians for doing the correct thing, and so I think the recent USSC ruling is positive, but would prefer that it allows those whom were denied human rights be able to sue for damages. And I'm not joking about that. Where the fuck do the shitheads like Rand Paul get off, denying people the right to participate fully in our society? Rand Paul is an opportunistic politician and certainty not a libertarian.

That remark, his office said, wasn't meant to be taken seriously.
"Sarcasm sometimes doesn't translate adequately from radio conversation," his communications director Moira Bagley said. "Sen. Paul did not suggest that striking down DOMA could lead to unusual marriage arrangements. What he was discussing was that having the state recognize marriage without definition could lead to marriages with no basis in reality."
