Ohio state Sen. Nina Turner (D) has proposed a bill forcing men to "see a sex therapist, receive a cardiac stress test and get a notarized affidavit signed by a sexual partner affirming impotency" before allowing them to get a prescription for Viagra or other erectile dysfunction drugs, the Dayton Daily News reports.
"Turner said if state policymakers want to legislate women's health choices... they should also be able to legislate men's reproductive health."

In case it's not clear I'm trying to suggest higher hurdles, I'm fully in support of the proposal.

"Kind of like when Blacks discriminate against Whites?"
No, kind of like using one's position of power in government to write a law which invades the medical privacy of one group in order to avenge the invasion of the medical privacy of another group.
If privacy is a right and if it's the basis of Roe v. Wade, then you don't attack privacy in order to defend abortion rights.

And this wasn't the only proposal to regulate men's reproductive rights. All of these proposals requiring some procedure or another constitute an invasion of the confidential relationship between doctor and patient (i.e. an invasion of privacy).
I am well aware that none of these measures stand a chance of passing, but I still think it's a terrible approach to raising awareness - especially when it is being done in support of abortion rights and against the trans-vaginal ultrasound laws - or are you unaware of what this is actually about??
These frivolous get-back-at-men bills only hurt the cause of abortion rights.
busterbrown
(8,515 posts)These proposals are being used as a way to illustrate how ridiculous the current wave of Republican ant-choice laws are.. You think these proposals would be brought to the states legislative floors on their own merit? Of course not... They are a response... Jeez

(20,219 posts)This is not at all about retaliation against fundamentalist religio-terrorists trying to shame and force women into the role gawd intended for them: firmly below and beneath men. And secondary to imaginary babies.
No, this is about saving lives! Men are endangering their sacred gawd-given health by being irresponsible with their manly parts!
EC
(12,287 posts)It's an invasion of privacy and all these so called right to lifers are forgetting that, or never knew it. Roe v Wade was decided on a woman's right to privacy and confidential relationship between her and her doctor being equal to the mans. I think she's trying to remind them of this. Or push the point home to some of the idiots who will say, "Oh no, you can't tell me what to do with my body, it's an invasion of my privacy." and not even see the correlation.

(1,309 posts)wasting a bunch of time with this talk. This preaching to the choir does nothing. If youi want to change things as she does, she needs to do one or probably both of two things. One turn out republicans to tell the republicans who voted for this they wil be held accountable and voted against by the republicans. and or two get behind the Stop Gerrymandering ( fair redistricting) efforts that have started in Dayton and other places in the state.
Nina's show is nice but lets put effort into a real solution and stop this crap. Gerrymandering is the cause, let fight it with both legislation to fight Gerrymandering and turn republicans especially women against those who have betrayed them. .

I don't know why the fine detail in a Human body is so hard to see well. For that matter, why isn't a modified CT scanner used? One which produced a 14" Pattern should be good, at least the detail would be there.
My wife tells me they are painful, I'll take her word for it.

Does this mean that I have to go through all of that for an antidepressant I'm taking despite its side effect being helpful to relieve ED?
However... State Sen. Turner is on the right track... other than providing safeguards to ensure that medical treatment is done in the proper environment there shouldn't be anyone standing in the way of anyones' health care and their doctor of choice. Not the insurance company, not the government.

Oh, sorry. This is about Nina, not Tina.
Well, if Nina is serious about tipping the scales of justice to equalize the legislative intrusion into male/female reproductive health, then a daily prostate exam requirement might 'do the trick'.
Thanks for the post, Babylon Sister. Shake it. DG.
