Friday quotes/statements from Texas Senator Wendy Davis: ‘Stop demonizing women’
Wendy Davis: Stop demonizing women
Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis urged Gov. Rick Perry to stop demonizing women for difficult decisions they might have to make, once again responding to the governors comments on her personal life.
Gov. Perry
lets stop demonizing women who face very difficult choices in their life. Lets make sure that we dont close down 37 of the 42 clinics in Texas and leave women with nowhere to go and put them in a situation where there health will be at risk, Davis told CNNs Wolf Blitzer on Friday when asked what she would say directly to the Republican if she could.
If you, truly care about womens health, lets do something to make sure that were protecting them. Lets make sure that were preventing unplanned pregnancies and that were committing resources to make that happen. Lets make sure that were working for age-appropriate sex-education in our school system, she added. Because what we do know is that closing down the ability to access that service unfortunately does not take the need away or womens confronting that issue away.
Earlier Friday, the Fort Worth Democrat took Perry to task over highly personal comments he made about her the day before.
I would say to him, that I had the privilege of making a choice about the path I chose for my life, Davis, who derailed a restrictive abortion bill in the Texas Legislature earlier this week, said on MSNBCs Morning Joe. Im so proud of my daughters but I could never for a moment put myself in the shoes of another woman confronting a difficult personal choice and it really isnt for him to make statements like that.
