Community Anxious After 37 People Shot In One Week

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Thirty-seven people have been shot in Baltimore City in just one week–15 of them killed. Now police are making moves to take back the streets.

Balloons and melted candles–all left behind after a man was gunned down on Bennett Place. Just down the street, police make their presence known.

Nearly triple the number of officers are deployed in hot spots this weekend. State and transit police, as well as the sheriff’s office, will also patrol city streets.

Friday night on North Avenue, it was neighbors hitting the streets.

“We’re not going to let it continue where grandmas can’t sit on their corner. It’s not okay with me that my child can walk to the street and play and the children in these neighborhoods have to fear bullets,” said Jasina Wise, Walking for Peace.

More guns would obviously solve this problem. Why does Baltimore hate freedoms?

No, but some of the strongest gun control in the nation hasn't solved it either.

but the ONLY reason that what you call gun control hasn't solved the problem is that there is not enough gun control elsewhere.

So unless they combined strong gun control with an impenetrable plexiglass dome that no one could pass through, it is OBVIOUS that it cannot be effective.

Do we REALLY have to even spell that out? It seems to be something a child or even a clever chimpanzee would be able to see beyond that canard.

6. So a national regime, like with drugs, will work?

Just like with drugs, you'll have better and worse enforcement in some places, and just like with drugs the thing in question is easy to transport.

7. Also, just like with drugs, we'll create a whole new class of criminals where once there were none.

It's the most short-sighted, scared-ass, not-going-to-work, I-don't-care-cuz-I-don't-do-it, kind of idea since the war on drugs.

Great comparison, it's really the same thing.

... so all areas within traveling distance of Baltimore have "some of the strongest gun control in the nation," do they? And as we all know, every gun stays in the exact place it was purchased, forever, as it is completely impossible to transport them from one place to another.

Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh.

Dwerp.

5. Yes, those are reasons gun control, like drug control, has problems being effective

I'm not sure why you think one of the main reasons I believe my argument somehow impeaches it. And the experience with drugs shows that even uniform laws don't help, because some places will enforce less strongly or effectively than others, and like drugs guns can be transported easily.

.. false equivalency. Not even worthy of a response.

Gun culture is a mental illness.

where the usual punks are shooting up the usual neighborhoods. Perhaps some double-digit prison terms for at least the more tenured criminals might be a good start.

A map of Baltimore, showing where homicides occur, was once posted in DU. Very striking where murders happen, and where they do not.
