Each year, up to 100 million sharks are slaughtered across the world’s oceans by shark fishermen to satisfy increasing demand for shark fin soup, a luxury meal. Shark populations are being pushed toward extinction, causing major changes to healthy ocean ecosystems.

Ten states and territories in the US have enacted strong anti-shark fin bans to save sharks. A virtual shark fin trade blockade exists along the US West Coast. Now, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has proposed to overturn the state and territory laws, allowing more shark fishing where locals have made a stand to ban shark fins!
