Can Someone Tell Me The Name Of The Colloquialism That Has Replaced "Homie"?

The attorney for Rachel Jenteal was on Piers Morgan and he was discussing the holes in Zimmerman's statements; especially the language he ascribed to Trayvon. He said the term "homie" is so ten years ago.

When I was a kid the term was "home boy" which started as a sort of a pejorative and became a term of affection and then it became "home" or "hom".

What is the term now?

The attorney also ripped a hole in Zimmerman's account of Trayvon's final moments.

But I wonder what term young people use. The attorney said it "was so ten years ago"

I said the "you're gonna die tonight, mother fucker" remark was right out of a 70s blackspoitation film and the "you got me" remark was right out of a 30s gangster movie.

Change location, stuff that would never go down with sets in LA are pretty much the norm on the east coast, even seen MS cliques acceptinf members not of el salvadorian descent. Though that was quickly shut down on orders from the shotcallers back home.

They were branching big time in the 90's and everyone has a piece. Even individual sets have branched. Pirus in St. Louis, Eight Trays in Seattle, El Rukens in Minnesota. It's crazy.

Yeah the 13s are insane.

but from the little I've read about it, they've been largely curtailed because of the gang units in the police departments now. It's such a huge part of police work. Maybe that's why they're scattering? I don't read that much about gangs, but I think they got injunctions that allowed police to keep a high profile around them which eventually shut a lot of them down. I heard that the gang units keep photographs of known and suspected gang members in a database and they track their movements so that they get to know all their relatives, friends, etc. It must be interesting reading for you.

But homie is played out. My mom tries to say "homie don't play that" and I be cracking up. My best friend calls me bitch, she's the only one besides my sister who can do that. I like to use snatch face for people I love. So I depends on the degree of familiarity. Of course it depends on race too. If we're cool then almost anything goes.

I went to high school from 99-2003, common language was:

"Dawg"
"Brothas"/"bros" (it wasn't frat speak at that time)
"Dude"
"Holmes"
"Man"
"Peeps"
And honestly, "n*ggaz" was used very often.

"Homies" was something my older brother (10yr age difference) said. It was old then, so unless it's coming back or TM was a much older person it just doesn't sound right.

It sounds like GZ was doing a terrible impression of what someone from the late 80's thought "those people" spoke like.
