Is Ed Snowden set to claim asylum in Venezuela when President Maduro visits Russia today?

An intriguing new option for Edward Snowden to flee to South America may open up in Moscow with Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro's trip to Russia today.

The new leader, who is due to hold talks with President Vladimir Putin, said last week the fleeing whistleblower is 'almost sure' to get a political asylum in his country if he files a formal request.

Maduro could help get Snowden - who currently has no valid travel document - out of Russia where he is causing strained relations with the U.S. at a time when Ecuador has cooled on taking him in.

A Moscow newspaper known as strongly pro-Kremlin even claimed Caracas president Nicolas Maduro could fly him to South America at the end of a two day trade mission which begins Monday.

It wouldn't surprise me if Maduro gets into the Snowden action. But it also wouldn't surprise me if he arranged to have him flown to Teheran.
