Bob Cesca desconstructs Snowden's message from Moscow

Snowden Emerges with Bizarre New Remarks, Implies that He Might Be Assassinated

snip***

Snowden continued:

While the public has cried out support of my shining a light on this secret system of injustice, the Government of the United States of America responded with an extrajudicial man-hunt costing me my family, my freedom to travel, and my right to live peacefully without fear of illegal aggression.

There’s a lot to unpack in that sentence, so let’s start at the beginning

When Snowden wrote that he shined “a light on this secret system of injustice,” we can assume he meant that he was just one of many people who have shined lights on the NSA. As others have noted, the data mining process has been well documented by a variety of reporters and authors pre-Snowden. The FISA court warrants, overseas wiretaps, the minimization process, metadata collection — it’s all been written about before and received with varying degrees of public outrage.

[div class="excerpt"]When Snowden wrote that he shined “a light on this secret system of injustice,” we can assume he meant that he was just one of many people who have shined lights on the NSA. As others have noted, the data mining process has been well documented by a variety of reporters and authors pre-Snowden. The FISA court warrants, overseas wiretaps, the minimization process, metadata collection — it’s all been written about before and received with varying degrees of public outrage.
Next, Snowden wrote that the United States engaged in “an extrajudicial manhunt.” Extrajudicial manhunt? What the hell is that supposed to mean? Not to jump too far ahead, but he wrote something similar in the Wikileaks statement in which he accused the United States of using “extralegal” methods. What exactly has the U.S. done in pursuit of Snowden that’s fallen outside the bounds of the law? Nothing that we’re aware of, and if he has proof of illegal activity, he should let us know

snip***

And finally, Snowden wrote, “I remain free and able to publish information that serves the public interest.” Obviously, he has more documents he intends to release to the press. However, this contradicts a tweet posted by Glenn Greenwald: “NOTE: Snowden’s leak is basically done. It’s newspapers – not Snowden – deciding what gets disclosed and in what sequence.” In other words, Snowden’s got nothing left and isn’t deciding what to publish.

These guys need to get their stories straight.

Later, Greenwald clarified with a twisty bit of verbal gymnastics: “I didn’t say Snowden couldn’t leak more documents if he wanted to.” Oh, so the “leak is basically done” is kind of like “mostly dead.”

***end snip

Much more.. the whole article is interesting from a reaily point of view..
http://thedailybanter.com/2013/07/snowden-emerges-with-new-remarks-implies-that-he-might-be-assassinated/

From Bob.. "Before these statements were released, Jonathan Capehart wrote that Snowden had “jumped the shark” by “flirting with Russia.” I appreciate the observation, but it wasn’t the first time and I’m afraid there are many more sharks still waiting to be jumped."

Snowden's a liar.. some people got that at the beginning.. when his resume was exposed.. now he's just playin' to his crowd.

Especially liked the paragraph below...

-snip-

I don’t know who’s advising him right now, but it’s not working out very well. Not only has Greenwald had to backpedal because of Snowden’s latest emergence, but Snowden has also flummoxed his own credibility with these ludicrous missives. Suddenly his remarks about being able to wiretap the president have a little more eye-opening context. He might know his way around his computer, but he’s totally delusional and naive. My concern since all of this began was that the left was too eagerly grappling onto an unknown quantity without vetting him — canonizing a hero without knowing the full extent of what he was up to. Since then, he’s made numerous questionable claims and leaked documents that have little or nothing to do with American civil liberties. If nothing else, these two new letters should raise some very serious red flags in the case of Edward Snowden.

Straw dog

Chapter 5 of the Tao Te Ching begins with the lines "Heaven and Earth are heartless / treating creatures like straw dogs".

Or in another version, translations vary:

"Heaven and earth are ruthless, and treat the myriad creatures as straw dogs; the sage is ruthless, and treats the people as straw dogs.[3]

Su Ch'e commentary on this verse explains: "Heaven and Earth are not partial. They do not kill living things out of cruelty or give them birth out of kindness.

We do the same when we make straw dogs to use in sacrifices. We dress them up and put them on the altar, but not because we love them.

And when the ceremony is over, we throw them into the street, but not because we hate them."[1]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_dog

This to me is the story of Assange and Snowden, and whoever else will be waved in front of our noses to be adored for a while, then out of sight and forgotten. There is a purpose behind this, not about protecting anyone's rights but those of the billionaires.

The US Government is not taking away my rights but the Koch brothers, ALEC and boat load of theocrats and corporatists are. But women in the United States are losing their privacy rights and basic liberties right now.

But it doesn't mean a flying fuck to these guys. We must be living in Animal Farm. All animals are created equal. But some are more equal than others. Assange and Snowden's rights and the alleged danger to them are with the pigs who run the farm. Meanwhile, real despair is being felt by the rest of us.

This whole charade is a mockery of rights by those who have never faced what women, minorities, gays and the poor suffer. Those on the media bandwagon with them are grifters and narcissists. The fact tthey are playing footsie with the same groups committing in your face theft of rights to so many, is just sickening.

Yes, I can chew gum and walk down the street at the same time. This is not worth my time, saving the rights of people that can literally change things instead of being entertainment fodder to keep people going in circles, and off what's happening to us, are a proper use of passion, energy and focus.

The Snowden road show is just another long-running, crooked circus. He's either a fool or an operative for the Kochtopus. It will end when it's decided by those who set it up that it's not longer a good investment.

JMHO.

Obama: No wheeling or dealing to extradite Snowden

President Barack Obama and Senegalese President Macky Sall leave after a... ((AP Photo/Evan Vucci))

"DAKAR, Senegal—The United States won't be scrambling military jets or engaging in high-level diplomatic bartering to get National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden extradited to the U.S., President Barack Obama said Thursday.

Dismissing him as "a 29-year-old hacker," Obama sought to downplay the international chase for Snowden, lowering the temperature of an issue that has already raised tensions between the U.S. and uneasy partners Russia and China.

Obama said the damage to U.S. national security has already been done and his top focus now is making sure it can't happen again."

unless they're vetted and regulated to the maximum.

We do have a member claiming to work for the company Snowden was with. He presented a graph to show government contracts were a small part of their firm and were not operating like dingbats.

I still see Kochoctopus dollars by default in this case, since the main beneficiaries of these manufactured media outrages are Koch interests. On most of my search page this story is the number one result, even if asking for a map. Those are always paid for, commercial links at the top and that kind of media saturation is not an accident.

The Kochoctopus plays to both sides of the aisle, they always have. They have what will tantalize the left and the right, to manipulate elections so that the result benefits their scheme for America. It's a long term plan, these stories are the wink of an eye in comparison to the historical narrative posted here on DU. There is a video and a transcipt here:

This thread shows the Kochoctopus got into GG's britches. Look to the source, always, or follow the money. The biggest money in any situation sets the agenda. The Koch brothers are not interested in our democracy:

America is Under Siege As The Koch Brothers Look to Replace The Constitution

By: RmuseJun. 30th, 2013

In military parlance, a siege is a form of constant, low-intensity conflict with the intent of conquering, by attrition and sustained assaults, an enemy holding a static defensive position with no means of escape or chance of marshaling assistance from outside forces. Siege warfare can last months, and even years, but if the attackers are patient and keep up constant pressure, the final defeat of the besieged is swift and extremely violent as the attackers take out their rage on the vanquished for not surrendering at the start of the war. For thirty years, Republicans have besieged 98% of the population with constant, and sometimes, low-intensity conflict that is reaching fruition and threatens to usher in a swift and violent end for most Americans at the behest of corporate and theocratic factions.

It is no longer a question of how or why Republicans are imposing corporatism and theocratic laws on the American people, but when they will finally transform this once democratic nation into a fascist state under authority of plutocrats and theocrats. The bad news is that America is one election away from total dominance by the Koch brothers billionaire club and religious extremists on the verge of replacing the Constitution with the bible and Milton Freidman’s manifesto “Capitalism and Freedom.” In fact, in preparation for oligarchs and theocrats ascendance to unchallenged authority to reign over the people, Republicans are eliminating the last vestiges of democracy, economic independence, and freedom from religion as they openly oppose the Constitution in their final push toward fascism.

The truth is that Republicans have panted to destroy New Deal protections for 80 years, but it was during the Reagan administration they began their siege in earnest and started transferring the nation’s wealth to plutocrats in the banking and financial industry. It was also the era the religious right gained unfettered access to the halls of Congress that is culminating in a blatant push toward rule by religious edict. Over the past four years, Republicans have tapped into racial animus rampant in a large segment of the population to garner support to give inordinate power to corporations with assistance from the Koch-influenced Supreme Court that gave corporations power over free and fair elections. Events of the past few weeks revealed that Republicans have now abandoned any pretense of governing for the people, and they are blatantly advocating for theocracy and corporatocracy.

It can no longer be argued that Republicans are not deliberately creating poverty to make room for tax benefits for the rich. In North Carolina, Republicans increased poverty by becoming the first of many Republican states to eliminate unemployment benefits despite the state has the fifth highest unemployment rate in the nation. North Carolina Republicans also are amending the state constitution to permanently make it a “right to work” (for less) state to keep corporate profits high and worker wages at poverty level that is a trend in Republican-controlled states. The Republicans’ goal is not to encourage hiring, but to increase corporate profits and produce a population barely surviving on less-than subsistence wages...

More at the link and worth the read:

http://www.politicususa.com/2013/06/30/america-seige-koch-brothers-replace-constitution.html

One of my former feline companions had little patience for games with feathers, string and other shiny objects. Instead of going for the toy that was supposed to be tantalizing her and using up her energy, she went for the source. The hand. With her claws fully extended. The hand quit.

I don't believe in media bullshit, either. And don't know why folks don't think two steps ahead, reasons, purpose, intent. It keeps people who claim to have more knowledge and intelligence than others running their mouths. Data or knowledge and intelligence, are not synonymous.

So they run around in panic, as the media intended. That panic leads them to bit the others nearby in a rush for survival. That is not what is going on in the world. It is not B & W like old movies and television. We should always look to the source, the why and for what reason and the effects of all that is being presented to us. Sometimes it leads right back to that hand.

Because values we prize, like altruism, equality and democracy are not a function of capitalism nor is it in the news. Cable television news shows don't have to obey FCC rules about operating in the public interest. They operate solely for private interests that don't care about our right or our lives.

They sound so ominous and are designed to be bumper sticker like slogans repeated by his fan club.

It's become increasingly obvious that this entire Snowden circus was coordinated by Wikileaks, Greenwald and their affiliates. This freakshow has been run like a political campaign. They thought he could run in to the willing arms of our Geo-Political adversaries if they sucked up to them enough.

You know there have to be some frantic three way calls or texts going on between Greenwald, Assaunge and Snowden. (Ironically and hilariously..all probably being actually monitored by the CIA!)
"Sit tight, we got your back.....no need to go issuing statements without running them by us first!"
Which is what this whole clusterfuck looked like, he released one thing, they went..oh shit! .....and started issuing things under his name......

The wording in one is so obviously "English as a second language"...it could only have come from the basement of a certain embassy.

Paranoia runs deep....in to your life it will creep.

I didn't think so.

Nor are very many people in the world really enamored of Assange.
Manning is the one who is on trial for his life.
While Assange makes leisurely visits to his window in the Ecuadorian embassy in London to wave to any potential fans, ala Liberace.

So, it pretty much looks to me like these Three Stooges have just about yukked it up as much as they can, and now there are consequences to pay for it.

WASHINGTON -- Former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) warned Tuesday that the U.S. government may use a drone missile to kill Edward Snowden, who recently leaked classified information on National Security Administration surveillance programs.

"I'm worried about somebody in our government might kill him with a cruise missile or a drone missile," Paul said during an interview on Fox Business News. "I mean, we live in a bad time where American citizens don't even have rights and that they can be killed. But the gentleman is trying to tell the truth about what's going on."

bullshit by Greenwald and Assange and he's always had a touch of the hyperbole and disconnect from reality("We got along fine without SS for a long time before The New Deal" paraphrasing) and it's only gotten worse as he's stranded like a cornered rat in a Moscow airport.

I had forgotten about him having epilepsy.. that's undoubtedly why is Dad is so worried about him even more than the usual reasons you would want your son home.

Trapped in a Moscow airport, asylum applications out to some of the most repressive shit holes on earth, and the only two people advising you are a guy trapped in a basement in an embassy, and a guy who left his own country because he hated it (or himself) too much to bear anymore.
Nominations for "Bad Life Choices" of the century are now closed. We have a winner!

Greenwald basically said that the ongoing revelations will be made by the press orgs that Snowden released the docs to... as he has left it up to their journalistic judgment on what is and is not in the public interest, therefore Snowden has was done with his part in the releasing of the documents and NOT that there were no more docs to be released as has been erroneously reported.

So, it's not that GG and ES need to get their story straight, it is that the M$M needs to.
