(I was previously given permission by Skinner to post periodically about http://www.wishadoo.org, especially when it involves DUers, with this required disclaimer: "The administrators of Democratic Underground have given permission for one discussion thread on this topic. The administrators of Democratic Underground make no claims regarding the legitimacy or illegitimacy of this fundraising effort. Permission was granted by Skinner on 8/6/2010, and the moderators have been notified."

WEDNESDAY PM/FINAL UPDATE: YOU ALL RAISED $900!!! The car payments are taken care of for the month of July; I was able to transfer funds for use over the next few days for gas and essentials; and I'll be sending the balance via postal money order, which will come in very handy as a cushion as he starts his new job. I was delighted to chat with him and another DUer family member throughout this process. Both of them, and his mom, were reduced to tears more than a few times as you all came together to ease their burden at this time.
So, from them, THANK YOU.

A long-time member of the DU family needs your help. but has asked (for good reason, as was explained to me) to not reveal the DU name publicly. If you want to help and want to know who it is, message me and I have permission to share privately, or contact this person via Wishadoo (after logging in, click "contact member" box in the upper right-hand corner of Wishlist post).
Here is the situation, per the Wishlist post
I start my new job on the 8th, so I just need to get my weekly $99 payments made until I get my first paycheck toward the end of July. $400 would take care of all the payments for a month. $500 would take care of the payments *and* give me some gas money as a cushion until I start getting paid, but I will figure out some other way to keep gas in the car if I need to. The important thing is to keep the car running.
My family is already stretched to the limit trying to help...they really can't do any more. We will be fine and self-sufficient when I start getting paid. We just need some help to keep from falling through the cracks until then. It's very frustrating, because the other help agencies I've tried all require extensive documents that I can't easily get. I make my car payments online--I don't get a paper bill. I don't have a paystub to show my income yet because I don't start my new job until the 8th. We're living with my brother temporarily, so I don't have a lease yet or bills to show our expenditures. And because we lack all of this paperwork, we just don't seem to qualify for help *anywhere*.
It is so incredibly vital that I don't lose my job before I even get to start. Please...we're willing to pay the money back after we get level again. I just don't want to have gotten this far, only to have it all fall apart before it even begins. Your help could make all the difference in the world for us...

Duh, I updated in the OP but not here. Sorry about that:
10:55 AM EST UPDATE: I'm afraid I'm going to lose power any moment (torrential downpours here in Raleigh, NC). THE GREAT NEWS IS THAT WE'VE REACHED THE $500 GOAL -- and the immediate stressor of the car being turned off today has been taken care of. THANK YOU!!!!
Now, we all know a cushion helps. So, if you are able to do so comfortably and would like to donate even though we've reached the goal, please feel free to throughout the next day or two.

(35,698 posts)I can't donate much as I have no job myself this summer, but I can donate a little. I can't use Paypal as they messed up my credit card numbers so bad it can't be fixed.
Option? Snail mail check? You can PM me if you'd like with that info.
