Seems to me that activities like, oh, putting out fires contribute to the economy because if you don't put out fires buildings burn down and people get killed and jobs are lost and insurance costs go up. Private sector rich folks in a capitalist economy see public sector organizations as competition. The private sector exists to make money for those at the top, so public sector (i.e. not for profit) goods and services are perceived as cutting into *their* pie. So they, or their followers, do the usual cutthroat, win-at-all-costs, lie-if-you-have-to, capitalist thing in order to make government seem undependable and unreliable with the excuse that people won't be "dependent" on government anymore..... and then, of course, those people can start to be "dependent" on private sector companies! We do our best to save life, property, and environment. Regardless who the patient is, our job is to help those in need. This is something I'm sure rush can't comprehend. Personally I can't stand him but Firefighters are very big on integrity, compassion, being honorable, hard working, etc. It's a shame that someone like rush makes millions spewing venom over the airwaves.
