I am deeply sorry for any pain that the character I portrayed brought to my communities, Lisa Chan, a 21-year-old woman who lives in the San Francisco area, said in a message on her Facebook page today.
Former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, a Holland Republican running for the U.S. Senate, had commissioned the ad for his campaign and aired it during the Super Bowl in Michigan.
In her Facebook post, Chan wrote, As a recent college grad who has spent time working to improve communities and empower those without a voice, this role is not in any way representative of who I am. It was absolutely a mistake on my part and one that, over time, I hope can be forgiven. ...................(more)

I played bluegrass at a campaign event for Mitch McConnell one time, too, and I took the money (which was pretty good back then -- he was running for Jeffers County (Ky) Judge-Executive, and we quoted a really good - for us - price). But I didn't do any stereotypes like, oh, sitting on a hay bale or chewing on a piece of straw, or speaking in redneck English.
