...DURING WINTER!!
Anyone who's befriended a dog knows there's some smelliness you have to put up with.
Who would do this and then run for president?!
I think RMoneys numbers are falling because he along with his far right cult members are starting to realize that he's an asshole.
No, not a passive asshole...maybe someone you can work with....an asshole, someone who can't be worked with because they're wired fucked up or somethin.
- Likes to fire people (matters not the reason)
- Doesn't care about the very poor (wow)
- Thinks corporations are people (seriously?!)
- Benefits after he tears down companies and sends people jobs overseas.
and drum roll
- Hoses his dog down and places the dog BACK on the roof in the middle of winter!!!
My goodness, if America votes this guy in office then America gets the government it deserves...

(37,457 posts)I'm not even a dog owner and never have been, and I can see it's inhumane.

(8,646 posts)I totally didn't know it was winter. What a piece of shit sadist. Ew. Fucking psychopath. I mean, I thought he was before too (who the fuck treats their dog like that?!) but now - omg. No ability to feel. None.

(9,186 posts)The dog was property to do with as he pleased. And he did. He didn't care about illegal immigrants on his property until he was running for office for goodness sakes!
He thinks of the all mighty dollar (in his pocket only) first and foremeost. That is why he is so rich, he enriched himself at the expense of outsourced jobs just to be able to cram more dollar bills in an unstuffed orifice.
He doesn't care that his church "converts holocaust victims to Mormonism...doesn't give a shit how sick, how f***ed that is. We do not count to this filthy-rich, entitled.

(11,175 posts)Do you have a link saying it was winter? I've read several stories about the incident and don't recall seeing that detail.
What I do recall is that the family was on the way from Boston to a vacation house in Canada -- I think it was on the shores of Lake Huron. That sounds more like a summer place.
As a practical matter, if we say it was in winter and it turns out it wasn't, then THAT becomes the issue and the whole story gets unfairly discredited. Romney's conduct upsets quite a few people regardless of the time of year, so let's not toss in any details that can't be solidly verified.

(22,308 posts)I also agree that we should be sure any details we discuss are accurate

(21,642 posts)Um, I meant "on the roof of a car traveling at high speed", not that the roof detached itself and took off like a magic carpet.

(22,308 posts)Just think about all the cars you have seen in your entire life.
Now think about all the cars you have seen with a dog in a carrier strapped to the roof.
Me either.
That guy isn't right in the head.

(62,444 posts)Everyone knows Bush skipped out on his NG duty. But the right managed to reduce that issue to the fake memo fed to CBS.
There has been nothing to indicate this happened in winter, and the original poster declines to source that detail. I always find that kind of behavior interesting.
Liberal_Stalwart71
(20,450 posts)but the horror of it happening in the first place. I don't give a damn when it happened. I am most concerned about animal cruelty, and further, how this guy gets away with it.

(62,444 posts)There is not a day that goes by without the dog story getting mentioned on DU.
Nobody thinks it was anything less than a horrible thing to do.
What you don't seem to get is that it is a common tactic to inject false facts into true stories for the purpose of seizing on those false facts to discredit the larger story.
It is a common tactic.
Embellishing the story by saying things which are not true is directly unhelpful.
Liberal_Stalwart71
(20,450 posts)I am livid about the fact that what happened to that dog is being dismissed due to some petty misinformation.
Now that the lie has been corrected, there needs to be a focus on the important issue at hand.

(62,444 posts)If there is a DUer alive who does not know the Seamus story, check their pulse.
The attempt to discredit the story by injecting false facts is the problem here.

(53,410 posts)Or a rainy Spring or a cold crisp windy Autumn. What he did turned him into a pariah as far as I'm concerned. The fact that he forced the dog to travel on top of the car is bad enough, without adding the cruelty of hosing the dog and car down and feeling great satisfaction that he 'fixed' the problem.
I guess his wife and children must have been grossed out by the dog shit running down the back window. He fixed that problem, so what's the big deal?

(3,427 posts)I had not heard that. I just assumed it was a summer vacation. If he did that in the middle of a Northeastern/Canadian winter, that makes it even worse, if true.
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)please edit your post or provide some evidence that it was winter. We should focus on facts here and distorting any part of the story will call the entire story into question.

The final destination of the Mitt Romney clan that summer of 83 with Seamus strapped to the car roof was his parents cottage on the Canadian shores of Lake Huron in a private gated community called Beach O Pines which was the focus of one of the most important civil rights cases in Canadian history.
Three or four years later, Mitts father, George Romney, who was president of American Motors, bought a cottage in Beach O Pines. It was here, that George, who later became governor of Michigan, took his family every July Fourth (why not celebrate American Independence Day on Canadian soil?). And keeping the Romney summer vacation tradition intact, Mitt annually shlepped his family to the beachfront cottage on the shores of Lake Huron despite the long 12-hour drive from Massachusetts. (It was only a two-hour drive from Detroit).

(113,323 posts)must have been summer, because I doubt that poor dog would have survived 12 hours in the freezing cold at 60 or 70 mph.
regardless, apart from the sheer original stupidity, hosing the dog down and then putting it back in the crate on top of the car, soaking wet--to drive at 60 or 70 mph for hours?? I would be surprised if the dog didn't develop pneumonia.
another thing, with five boys, and as rich as they are, wouldn't you think they would have an rv? or fly? really.

(13,891 posts)cleaning up the poor dog. He was worried about his car. I think he would have been happy to let the dog sit in shit if it hadn't been running down the side of the car.

(14,881 posts)There are a LOT of dog lovers in this country. There are a LOT of animal lovers in this country.
Even the NON lovers recognize it for the hideous abuse and cruelty that it is,and will question his judgement and character.
His attempt to explain it away because the crate didn't fit in the car? Seriously...like there were no other alternatives. He never heard of renting a vehicle that would fit the entire family? Or was he simply too cheap to do that?
I wonder what lesson he'll take away from this. Sadly, probably not the right lesson. I don't know any cure for what ails him.
