Wisconsin Local 1848
Yup, they mistook the Wisconsin state flag as being the flag of Wisconsin Local 1848.
The right wing propaganda site Politico was so eager to try to do a smear job on President Barack Obama and his visit to Milwaukee today that they failed to look before they leaped and ended up landing into a pile of foolishness with both feet:

Once they realized how stupid they looked, they deleted the post (which appears to be a common thing for Republicans).
But thanks to the power of Google Cache, you can see it for yourself.

(53,475 posts)... our State flag should be familiar to these asshats!
Reminds me of the "Obama flag" in 2008 that turned out to be the Ohio State flag.

(27,461 posts)and Politico let it get published. How embarrassing, and how revealing.

(8,053 posts)they're all told what to write, what to think, what to say.
If anyone there knew anything--even knew how to ask a question like "whose flag is that?", they'd have found out. Those are the wages of not being intellectually curious. You cannot think for yourself... you only react to what you hear.

(24,412 posts)not with the righties of course but the unions. Still, it's clear that Politico is NOT President Obama's friend.
Enrique
(27,461 posts)it's a "smear" to say Obama's on the side of labor? What have we come to?
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,412 posts)Republicans have been especially busy demonizing unions since 2011. Based on what's been happening in Wisconsin, Ohio, and, now, Indiana, I sincerely hope it blows up in their faces..........big time!

(27,461 posts)a lot of people WANT Obama to be seen as siding with the unions in their fight against Walker. There's nothing in the story that says Obama's perceived taking sides is a bad thing, in fact she might very well have seen it as a good thing.

(441 posts)Classic Politico, but I doubt it was meant as a smear.

The author clearly isn't objective, and should have done some basic research.
Why on earth would the WH fly a local union flag? Was the event at that union's headquarters?
Enrique
(27,461 posts)unions are legitimate organizations, they're not clandestine, they're not nefarious. And as the article says, the jobs he's talking about are unions jobs, so it would be relevant.

...has nothing to do with the legitimacy of unions. It isn't "relevant," it was the Wisconsin state flag. This is a screw up by Politico.
Enrique
(27,461 posts)he has not appeared anywhere in front of a large union flag like this, as far as I know. But the idea of him doing so sometime in the future is not a preposterous idea to me. I don't think it's likely, he shows no sign of doing so, but it could happen. It's not utterly inconceivable, as you say it is, when you ask, "why on earth would Obama appear with a union flag?" Again I ask, why not?

(30,439 posts)I don't even see how Obama speaking in front of a union flag would even be "negative".
Quite the contrary. It would only help him.

On the October 15 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Bob Grant said: "[W]hat is that flag that Obama's been standing in front of that looks like an American flag, but instead of having the field of 50 stars representing the 50 states, there's a circle?" He then said: "Is the circle the 'O' for Obama? Is that what it is?" Grant later said: "[D]id you notice Obama is not content with just having several American flags, plain old American flags with the 50 states represented by 50 stars? He has the 'O' flag. And that's what that 'O' is. That's what that 'O' is."

(13,776 posts)His eagle eye probably also caught the fact that Obama had altered the number of stripes/original colonies to five. Obama was trying to rewrite history--but the American Revolution belongs to the Tea Party! Outrage! Horror!

(37,573 posts)but even funnier is the idea that Obama would be on the side of working people.
If it was true, why would Pokitico think it was a bad thing?
I will state straight up what side I am on. I am on the side of the majority, of the working people in the bottom 80%.
