(22,308 posts)I would love to compare, you anywhere near Detroit?
Mine was a stray I took in back in 2003, she is ~10 now. I call her Yeti. When I found her she was maybe 6 months old and looked very similar to my previous dog who I named Sasquatch. She kinda grew out of that.

Hippiedog Hank and Bubba Ray (Bubba Ray left us for the Bridge last fall, but he will always be part of the pack).

MixMaster Max was surrendered by his knuckleheaded owner who got another dog that he 'liked better'.
He was on the euth list ... been with me for 2.5 years.

Porter P Bear was surrendered -TWICE - by people who "couldn't deal with him" and he was on the euth list.
He's a big teddy bear in a dog suit.
He's been with me for little over a year & I can't for the life of me figure out what those peoples' problem with him was.

(3,310 posts)This year should be pretty interesting. The blackberries have spread enough to be worthwhile and we should be getting kiwi fruit. One female bloomed last year, so I'm hoping the male will bloom this year, too.
The centerpiece though is our girlbabies. We are blessed with awesome furkids.

(3,310 posts)Ashley-Marie is 6-1/2yo now. Positively the most graceful, agile creature I've ever lived with. She's a good "daughter" to our eldest and "mom" to the rest.

(3,310 posts)It's so funny how she watches the road and leeeeeeeeeeeeans just ahead of a curve. She knows all the routes as well as I do. My buddy rides WITH me.
Madame Dora, the eldest, is conveyed. The back seat is hers as is proper for a lady being chauffeured.

(8,692 posts)My ceile bear:
starting with this thread, alone, we should put together a calendar of beautiful rescues - maybe one for every day of the year!
My cat is my number one argument to silly ass dog shows. He's a thousand times more handsome than any of those ridiculous looking things (although it's not the poor things faults that they've been bred within an inch of their lives).
I've seen animal after animal in this thread, that, if they don't meet your definition of beauty, I just don't get it.

(8,692 posts)She's the only dog I've owned as an adult. I'm actaully a major cat person- 3 inside babies, 2 on the porch and a handful of ferals I feed every night. And when she goes (not any time soon, she may be 11 but she's in perffect health) I don't think I'll get another. She's perfect, no one else could compare.
You have a beautiful boy.
I actually do watch the dog shows and I enjoy them for the most part, but sometimes you see a breed that just doesn't look right anymore physically, and looking in their eyes- just seems like something is missing...

(4,507 posts)and the issue with the dog show circuit and the akc is a difficult one for those of us in animal advocacy.
I just don't like the concept of bred dogs and cats (and don't think it's healthy), but I don't want to go nuts on that entire world as a whole, as opposed to the way that I am filled with rage over "puppy stores" that sell bred puppies and kittens (argh). AKC and other organizations, I'm like, if you're super charitable and if your members are super charitable toward shelter and rescue funds, I guess, I don't know, I'm probably not going to hold my nose at your support.
I think people should adopt, spay, neuter, period, but that's a goal, and it's up to us to get more and more people to favor that option.
But when they cancel the Pedigree endorsement because they don't want to look at "sad dogs," my latent hostility comes rushing back to the surface pretty quick.
I know what you mean about no one comparing. My boy is the only one I've had as an adult, and the future's the future, I don't want to talk about it, but there will never be another one like him. He does stuff when we're on the bed like just quietly reaching out and resting his paw on my forearm - our bond is a special, once in a lifetime thing.

(14,549 posts)one of those 8 million was a boxer whose leg was broken by guys trying to make him a tough vicious guard dog in a tow truck garage. The damnable fools actually had a sweet, hand licking, velcro love bug of a dog. Rescue is win win.
Congrats! She's beautiful.
