Contraception debate: The right is for the tyranny of the majority except when it isn't
Think about what happens when atheists complain about public property being used to promote religion (10 Commandments monuments in courthouses, nativity displays at city halls, etc.). When that happens, the religious right gets indignant and says things like "hey, the vast majority of the people are Christian, so why should they have to listen to a small minority?"
I those cases, the right is all about the tyranny of the majority. Same is true for same-sex marriage. They think the voters should be able to decide on the civil rights of gays.
Well in this case, we're dealing with the practice of 99% of American women. That's the percentage who use contraception at some point during their lives. And NOW, the right wing is getting all weepy over the "injustice" being inflicted upon the small number of people (mainly men) who think birth control is immoral. But, there is no injustice here because nobody is being forced to use birth control and nobody is being forced to even pay for birth control.
This whole thing makes my head hurt.
