Sir Paul McCartney Gives Up Smoking Pot At Age 69

Sir Paul McCartney may have looked younger than ever during his Grammy performance Sunday, but the former Beatles member says he's finally giving up a large part of his youth: marijuana.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine, McCartney reveals that Bob Dylan first introduced him to cannabis -- and that he also experimented with a host of others, including heroin, LSD and cocaine. He has unashamedly stuck with the weed-smoking habit since the 1960s, and was famously arrested in Japan in 1980 for possessing pot.

Now the 69-year-old music legend, who finally received his star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame on February 9, says it's time to give up this part of his life -- for his 8-year-old daughter Beatrice (from second wife Heather Mills).

“I smoked my share. When you’re bringing up a youngster, your sense of responsibility does kick in, if you’re lucky, at some point... Enough’s enough -- you just don’t seem to think it’s necessary," he said.

seem to have grown up and done quite well, so perhaps the golddigging Ms Mills has threatened actions against parental rights in re Beatrice.

If it were between giving it up, or having to pay another penny to the golddigging Ms Mills and/or to barristers to battle her vultures, I can see why he might do this.

Her father's name practically bought her a career.

I remember years back when she got so much attention, like who makes a 6 figure salary after leaving trade school? No wonder her more talented classmates were resentful.

would you hide under a pseudonym to insure that any success you had had nothing to do with your dad?

Are you sure that there were "more talented" classmates - or were there possibly some who just thought they were. The fact is that some dresses designed by her have been worn by people who could chose anything. I doubt an actress would pick a dress to make sir Paul happy, if another dress suited her and the occasion better.

I have never read any stories that she was a "nasty character" - and given her family's prominence I assume that anything like that would have been tabloid fodder.

Why are you invested in believing the worst. I know, that my reason for respecting Paul and the other Beatles is that - as someone more eloquent than I once said - they wrote the song track for my generation's youth. When things got bad, there were always the Beatles albums to enjoy - and when things were good, it was their music we celebrated with.

I'm sure Chloe didn't offer a great contract to any of Stella's classmates, so yes, she did have a great advantage with the family name. And once you get a "name", any run of the mill celebrity will be running out to buy your stuff.

And about being a nasty character, I've read that she's quite a pompous, self-important pill. Would it kill her to crack a smile?

Nothing I've read suggests that she is a pompous, self important pill - and obviously neither of us have met her. Unless you can cite chapter and verse, it is ridiculous to make negative assertions about someone you don't know.

Nice try. If you are going to rail against the evils of Marijuana, using Paul McCartney as an example is probably not a good idea.

when he had every reason to become snooty. He is a philanthropist, a vegetarian, a greenie, seems to be a good Dad in that his kids have turned out it seems to be well adjusted productive people instead of rich kid brats. I'm not sure I would've done that well with all that fame and wealth.

Ok here's 2.

Hank Williams Jr.- Never mind the Obama comment, Hank Jr plays the absolute minimum time it takes to get paid, never goes onstage sober and has nothing but contempt for his fans.

Ted Nugent- Once had an underage girl put in his custody so he could sleep with her.

Lars Ulrich- ASSHOLE. Huge head, tiny talent.

I could do this for quite awhile but I think the point is made.

McCartney is not even close to the biggest asshole in all of music. Although if I thought it was worth my time I could tell you why he's very difficult to tour with. It's not.

You don't need rehab to quit cannabis when you want to quit. No seizures, rage fits, excruciating stomach cramps or tremors....funny that, huh?

Good luck with your new career and I, like you, look forward to the day we can vape in peace.
