I have to say I was quite surprised because I'd always heard that older people didn't like Obama because their past was very bigoted.
I got my monthly news letter from AARP and 100 Centenarians, of people ages 60-65. Their first choice was Betty White. Their second choice was President Obama. I' very happy to hear it, but still very surprised. Maybe the BS we've been hearing about the feeings of seniors is just that, ALL BS!

(28,394 posts)There are a lot of assumptions in your post. Baby boomers are aged 60-65 and what makes you think they have a "very bigoted" past? That is not OLD.
I don't understand your second sentence. Was the news letter from AARP and 100 Centenarians? Or were the centenarians included in the poll?

(45,806 posts)United Health Care together did the poll.
The term Baby boomers was used in the article & age 60-65 were the age group used in the poll.
I guess I misused the term newsletter, since it's called "The AASRP Bulletin" and it comes in the mail once a month.
BTW, I'm 69, nd 60-65 IS old, as am I, and way too many people I know in that age bracket still consider blacks to be lesser individuals than they are, and people they wouldn't associate with.

(12,504 posts)I guess in some respect I'm surprised that the elderly (of whom a majority are supposed to be Republican), would chose a Democrat....otoh and imho seniors also have a sense of personal history (how many get this chance), and a more sober respect for the office (regardless of the political affiliation), POTUS is POTUS.

(14,337 posts)after all those years as an Independent. Thank my Millennium children for that and ending the charade.

(12,081 posts)I think is great about this generation is that they are not loyal to any one organization. In fact they are for the most part anti-establishment. They want answers on issues, not empty promises given from a broken two party bureaucracy. Many millennials are non-religious, want marijuana legalized, are anti-war and are anti-capatilism. I admire this independent streak in our millennials and it has inspired me.

(402 posts)Thats how i am but i am also a student of history and world government and one thing i know for certain is Democratic government is the only possible defense any of us have against multi national corporations which in my opinion can be the most destructive force on the planet. I guess in the US i would be considered independent but i am actually more of a Democratic Socialist.
liberal_at_heart
(12,081 posts)democrats have been bought by the corporations so finding democratic candadites that have not been bought is tough. They are out there but very hard to find. I would love to see some candadites come out in favor of campaign finance reform. We will never be able to address any other issues until we get corporate money out of our government.

(402 posts)Until we publicly finance campaigns so that those with money can no longer write the laws and bring back a form of the fairness doctrine so that advertisers can no longer buy anti labor anti consumer propaganda we will just have to ride out this wave until we finally take to the streets in mass. only a matter of time.

but not horses? And, when it comes right down to it, horses are the dumbest animals in the barn yard.

(2,899 posts)I love both.
My cow turned 22 last March! I think she's going for some sort of record. I raised her from birth and have a blog about her.
My life has been incredibly enriched by horses. I find them loyal, loving, hardworking, brave, beautiful, gentle and very intelligent. I have owned at least one since May of 1970.
I'd trust my life to a horse any day over the likes of you.
Barn yard?

(34,582 posts)There are just a lot of people, especially here in Texas, that get upset about selling horses for slaughter but have no problems killing the hell out of cows. That is why I asked, if that matters from the likes of me.

I like President Obama just fine, warts and all and he would be welcomed into our fold as family if the chance was to be. Oh and we're all old, Oldest is 82, youngest is 61. 9 of us still ticking along.

While the majority of 65 year-olds in Texas would not.
