Colbert's mother seriously ill, report sources close to the show
Multiple outlets have cited a family illness as the cause of the suspension of "The Colbert Report," and now a person who has a business relationship with the show has told Huffington Post that the host's mother is seriously ill, and the show will remain suspended until he can return.
Fans and supporters have been tweeting messages of love and support for Colbert and his family throughout the day.
Colbert was born the youngest of 11 children to mother Lorna, 91, and father James, who died in a plane accident in 1974 along with two of Colbert's brothers.
Lorna Colbert appeared on a South Carolina television station talking about her famous son in 2008.

(63,912 posts)I was in the hospital room with my mother at the time of the Tom DeLay/Terry Schiavo issue. My mother had opted to die by not eating and it was actually a kind way for her to die, esp. for herself. I could not and would not interfere since I knew her and I knew how she thought.
My mother passed away gently and peacefully. She did not suffer or struggle. She had drugs to ease her path into death, which I insisted upon. She had to depend on me and I could not abandon her.

And the death of her husband and two children in a plane crash...
It weighs heavy on my heart and lifts me up at the same time.
Not quite sure how to express myself.... It just sounds like she's been a pretty darn good Mom.
