Racist assholes act accordingly in Houston (my headline)

Supporters of Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman came face-to-face Sunday during a march through a wealthy neighborhood in Houston.

Some 80 pro-Zimmerman supporters waved signs and shouted slogans at Martin supporters as they passed through the neighborhood of River Oaks, an upscale enclave deemed "Houston's Sanford, Florida" by the organizer of the Trayvon rally, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Separated by cops on horseback and specialized crowd control units, the two sides traded insults and shouted slogans at each another but never clashed physically.

I couldn't get the photos to show up, though that's probably a good thing

I have lived in Houston since 1984 and I am ashamed of some of the conduct that occurred yesterday. http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Dueling-Trayvon-Martin-protests-collide-in-River-4678150.php?cmpid=houtexhcat I really hated that someone in Houston would do this

An equal number of weekend shoppers curious about the protesters loitered in parking lots across the street. Dozens of police officers on foot, bike and horseback watched the crowds and guided traffic.

At one point, Renee Vaughan of Austin mocked protesters by chanting, "We're racist. We're proud. We're better 'cause we're white."

Conservative sites are saying she is a plant by the left. I am not finding any progressive sights with this information.

There are a large number of gun nuts in Houston. In addition, there are some who will quarrel or take issue with anything that Rev. Quanell X organizes or participates in. Rev. Quanell X has done some good works in Houston and has offended some Houstonians and these people will object as a matter of reflex to any issue being championed by Rev. Quanell X.

that activist Quanell X had planned this rally.

My view is that this is largely a symbolic move on the part of Quanell X. It makes for good TV as River Oaks is the most beautiful part of Houston with the mansions owned by the leaders of the energy cos. My guess is that most of the counter-protestors were from other neighborhoods though - much of River Oaks would likely be vacationing elsewhere at this time of year given the heat in July/August in Houston.

used to marathon train years ago and we would run through there really early in the morning (like 5 am - quietly!). It's a gorgeous area.

I seriously doubt the Martin's or the Zimmerman's or anybody in that trial except the defense lawyers could afford it, and maybe not them. It is where George Bush Sr. lives. River Oaks criminals are of the Enron variety.

I don't blame him a bit for going to Maine for the summer. That alone proves he's smarter than W. who liked to spend his summers in Crawford at his fake "ranch."

as well when she worked in Tanglewood. She spoke very highly of them both, had her picture taken with them (!), and said they were very down to earth. I cannot for the life of me find anyone who will say anything positive about George W., but Sr. is still popular down here.

as an acquaintance, not friend, from back when he was governor and I worked in the Leg. Well enough that he probably even remembers me. He is every bit the doofus frat boy you imagine. When he decided to run for president I thought there is no f'ing way that guy will ever be president. But he damn sure was, cataclysmically so. I know some wealthy Houston folks (but good Democrats) who have been at parties with the H.W. and Barbara back in the day and they really liked them too.

Anyways, that's my name dropping for the day.

but my husband has met George P and knows others from their circle.

I'm not surprised to hear that tidbit about George, I wondered if he was really that clueless but it appears so.

Really happy that demographics are changing in Texas.
