General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSpent time with a gent today who's son lost a best friend yesterday.
This friend was only 21 years old.
My acquaintances son just entered the Military and had not gotten the news yet that his best friend was dead. He was trying to get the Military Chaplin to give him the news before his son found out by the social networks.
Another tragic story of "Legal Gun Ownership" gone awry.
So sad. Untrained 21 year olds with guns. What could possibly go wrong?

(7,720 posts)I have a brother who has taught gun safety in conjuction with the state DNR for over 25 years. Many of these gun accidents could be prevented through education.

(7,720 posts)could have prevented the unfortunate incident this thread is about?
Even the family wishes there to be more gun safety education.

(54,770 posts)glorify guns, bloody videos, recertification, no more training solely by NRA instructors or other gun cultists, etc.
If a person is involved in domestic violence like Zimmerman, whatever gun rights they have should be appealed. If anyone is involved in a gun incident, no matter if all end well, sorry no more gunners for the proven accident prone.
And we need to change public's perception of gun culture. When we see someone with a gun on city streets, we need to look at them as a Zimmerman, or someone walking down street with a sword or spear, or confederate flag.

(7,720 posts)What gun law would have helped in THIS case?
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)This doesn't have to be a short term effort. The goals of decreasing such incidents can be a several decade effort, starting with bringing gun culture into 21st century.

(7,720 posts)You have written some mumbo jumbo without any concrete examples of laws that would have changed the incident that is the topic of this thread.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)There's one for starters. Why the hell do you need a gun on city streets?
I can't carry a sword, why should gun cultists get to pack a semu-auto, practice to draw, practice to shoot someone using targets resembling humans.
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)Are you saying that semi-auto handguns should have been banned 20 years ago?
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)they are world's safest gun toter.
What the fuck is your point?
My post was just to point out how yet another life was snuffed out because of our ever loving need to have guns.
Yes training was needed but were guns needed?

This is another situation where gun safety training and education could have saved a life. It appears that the person handling the gun did not understand that when a magazine is removed from a semi-auto gun it does not mean the gun is unloaded.

(7,720 posts)I have been providing a link to another incident. Several of these types of accidents have happened in the Twin Cities in recent years. That is more of a reason for people to get gun safety education.

(24,853 posts)It seems each one is slightly different depending on the instructor. My Wife attended the last one I went to and she liked it so much that for the first time she thought she wanted a pistol. She was Annie Oakley on the range and it tickled her no end.
