TREASON IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA

For those who came of age politically with the Supreme Court's election of George W. Bush, disdain for the mainstream media remains severe. Watching all but a brave handful of the media fall into line to sell the Patriot Act, the War on Terror, and Weapons of Mass destruction has left an open wound. It has also left an entire generation with a keen understanding of how government honchos like Dick Cheney or Barack Obama use the media to spread the leaks they want to spread while decrying all others.

http://readersupportednews.org/opinion2/276-74/18547-focus-the-treason-of-the-mainstream-media

It is my sincerest hope in the near future that we can reform the inept, lazy bums who call themselves representatives of the media. We really do need to work on this since it is a part of OUR democracy. http://signon.org/sign/restore-the-airwaves

This is my petition. Many of you have graciously signed. I've had it up for some time now--only able to think about it when I'm not busy trying to keep from being homeless. Its my "positive energy" when there is spare time. Nonetheless, how wonderful it would be in this nation we call or label as "great" and yet, have a one-sided media--ran by people who have utter contempt for anything democratic. It is really tragic (to me at least) to always hear some foul-mouthed slob incite divisiveness, and call people sluts on the air--only to be outdone by some other mental-midget. I wonder what English speaking visitors from another country think when they hear crap like this for the first time?

I did almost used the word "lame" in the title, but I don't like to quote people who mangle the English language.

of that media. After all, the media is putting out stuff that gets them the highest ratings. The money that the media gets comes from advertisers, and they get their money from the people who watch that media and commercials, so the viewers are monetarily supporting the treasonous activity.

I'm not disagreeing with you, just logically extending the charge of treason. It Hitler had 100 followers on Twitter, they're guilty of the crimes he commits with their support.

I know, I lose, because I brought up Hitler

but it's not our fault they market lies to us. They're just packaging shit as perfume as they always have, but they're more flagrant about it. Marketing = IPM = Influence, Persuade, Manipulate... Are you saying we choose that for ourselves? I agree with the OP, but I'm not battle-ready at this time.

It's the quality, not quantity.

What would happen if people stopped watching the pathetic excuse we have for news? What would happen if everybody on DU (200,000+) stopped watching the pathetic excuse we have for news, and got it from the net? The problem is that sitting down and watching TV is kind of a habit that's hard to break.

The problem is not that there's no market for real journalism. The problem is that media owners want to sell us propaganda.

But there are no jobs for those who seek or expose truth. There are only pink slips, subpoenas, and disappearances. As for history, the Nazis may have taught the Soviet Union propaganda, but we and the British taught the Nazis.

when you identified dick cheney and our president as the same type of manipulator.
President Barack Obama is not the same as Dick Cheney. Have you already forgotten the media sabotaged the election of President Obama?
oh, i get it now. you're the guy who posts those ridiculous advertisement polls asking readers "which is the worse republican?"

Some day we will learn exactly what was up behind the scenes... Military Industrial Complex hated the fact that Obama became President and you can bet if there was any sort of attack on our country after he curtailed parts of the Surveillance program they would have placed the entire fault on his back..
Those 5 Star Generals, you absolutely, know probably tried to intimidate the hell out of him for the first few years... I am sure we will learn more down line.. In the meantime comparing Cheney with Obama
will put the original poster on ignore status with me..

And no I'm not the guy who posts advertisment polls.

Please check your posters name before making accuastions.

I would appreciate it.

Corporations own news media, hence news media must make money.

We are now watching a reality TV show at 6:00 pm, with a handsome, well dressed person delivering a folksy account of corporate talking points, followed by the three segments of the latest sensationalism that will sell advertising.

It is absolutely putrid.

Nixon would be a saint with today's TV "journalists". We would get some very "fun" stories about "checkers".

The 24hr Infotainment filth is free speech. Sirius/XM is free speech. Print media is free speech. Podcasts are free speech.

If you want to help out, speak with one person a day about better news sources. Anyone reading this right now already knows how......the internet. There is a whole world of different viewpoints just a click away. Everyone should read as many as they can and decide for themselves what makes sense and what doesn't.

Don't let hyperbole ruin the point you are trying to make by using terms like "treason". Make sure what you are advocating is consistent with the law.

People don't need to be force-fed different information from current sources, they need to expand their horizons to more than just American cable crap.
